Advert for recruiting a Specialty Doctor in Radiology

10 PAs, Full Time- 1 Year Fixed Term Contract

Applications are invited for the post of a Specialty Doctor in Radiology at Newham University Hospital (part of Barts Health NHS Trust). The post will be for a period of 12 months. It could be converted to permanent if the post holder is suitable. This is not a training post. The post holder will be expected to independently scan and report on ultrasound, CT and plain X-ray examinations both in the emergency setting and for ambulatory care (O.P). Specialty doctors will also be actively encouraged to report on different MRI scans and pursue a subspecialty interest in Radiology. The successful post holder(s) would form part of our 7 specialty doctors’ rota and would be operating independently at near consultant level providing both emergency and ambulatory care. This is a fixed term full-time recruitment for a year (40 hours per week) to cover vacancies and provide cover for our Specialty Doctors team. This could include some weekends, in whole or in part (defined for this purpose only as: any period between 00.01 Saturday and 23.59 Sunday where work is undertaken during an on call or shift).

Main duties of the job

  • Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
  • Rostered unsupervised sessions within a set timetable to include ultrasound scanning, plain film reporting, CT reporting, vetting, and fluoroscopy; as well as supervised MRI reporting sessions, that will change to be unsupervised in appropriate candidates cleared to do the job. Candidates will be operating near consultant level.
  • Leadership, development, and organisation of the services in their charge in line with the Trust’s business plans. Liaison and communication with the Imaging Clinical Director, the Imaging General Manager and the Clinical Support Managing Director.
  • Active participation in audit programmes. Audit and teaching activities are encouraged and supported by the department, and indeed by NUH and the whole of Barts Health.
  • Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of our doctors in training.
