Job overview

We are seeking a specialty doctor in OMFS to join our team at Bradford. We welcome applicants with the relevant experience as described in the person specification and encourage a visit to the department prior to the interview. This post will contribute to the on-call Rota and will deliver outpatient activity only, supporting the Trust in elective recovery.

A meeting will take place with your Clinical Director and General Manager shortly after your appointment in order to formally agree your job plan.

The job plan will be reviewed on an annual basis or following changes to the role e.g., an appointment of another Specialty Doctor to the team.

Main duties of the job

To undertake clinical duties of clinics, assistance on the ward and theatres and take part in the 1:6 on-call Rota.

Health and Safety/Risk Management The jobholder must comply at all times with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the Trust’s Risk Incident Reporting System.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder will be part of a team of OMFS team who will be tasked with delivering the OMFS service to Bradford and the surrounding areas, and will have responsibility for diagnosis and treatment of patients at the hospitals and clinics at which you have duties

The post-holder will be responsible for the continuing treatment of patients under their care

The post-holder will be expected to be responsible for personal performance of duties as agreed in the formal job plan

The post-holder will be expected to demonstrate commitment to the Trust’s clinical governance and risk strategy, and adhere to all Trust Policies and Procedures.

The post-holder will be expected to uphold standards and ensure these are developed through methods such as audit, evidence-based research and appraisal.

The post-holder will be expected to work flexibly with colleagues to achieve the agreed planned activity for the service.

  • Practical skills in relation to the speciality
  • Proven ability to work in different clinical settings
  • Clear communication skills

  • Empathy and sensitivity
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: - that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or - have achieved the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application – Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 7, Reading 7, Writing 7. IELTS certificate to be presented at interview. If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples they must provide supporting evidence

  • Previous experience relevant to the specialty

  • Minimum of four years (FTE or equivalent) postgraduate training in the UK (or equivalent EEA training) of which at least 2 years training must be in the relevant specialty or a recognised equivalent training Applicant knowledge is up to date and is fit to practise safely Commitment for managing professional development

Qualifications

Essential

  • BDS or equivalent dental qualification
  • Eligible for full registration with the GDC at time of appointment
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by the time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
  • Evidence of achievement of DCT2 / DCT3 competencies in the specialty at the time of application
  • Specialty specific requirements eg MFDS or equivalent
