Job summary

This is a fixed term appointment for a 10 PA Specialty Doctor in Sexual Health +/- HIV, covering a career break for 6 months in the first instance, from October 2026. Given the complex care requirement the appointee must hold a basic medical qualification i.e. MBBS/MBChB or equivalent; at least 4 years of post-registration medical experience and 1-2+ years of specialty experience in integrated Sexual Health +/- HIV. CoSRH/ specialty Diplomas in GUM/ HIV +/- procedural letters of competence in contraception and Gynaecology experience are desirable. They will also provide support and training to the clinical team as well as contributing to the clinical governance of the department. The post-holder will be expected to work with consultant and senior nursing colleagues, and the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to maintain the current high standards and track record for innovation, especially in digital services. There is the opportunity for HIV clinics at the acute trust LGI premises, if already competent in HIV outpatient medical management.

Main duties of the job

The post holder core duties will be to Undertake GUM, HIV Prep and Contraception patients +/- LARC procedures / HIV outpatient care depending on competencies; within clinic and national guidelines and provide high quality care to all patients. Cover emergency presentations to the integrated sexual health service Share the Duty Senior Clinician of the Day (Senior cover) rota and provide advice and support for the multi-disciplinary team as well as training to the junior doctors. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching, innovation and service development are essential.

It provides integrated Contraception and Sexual Health services and third-sector support as part of a consortium between Leeds Community Healthcare Trust (Lead provider), LTH, the Leeds GP confederation and Forum Central (voluntary sector). There are daily mixed clinics comprising same-day and booked appointments with self referral and triage for emergency cases, plus online and postal/e-prescription services. There is 6-day opening at the Beeston hub including evening and Saturday morning access, plus further spoke sites operational around the city.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals HIV service provides bespoke MDT care for over 2500 people living with HIV, in 3 clinic sites across Leeds Wakefield and Dewsbury. The service is highly rated by patients, professionals, third sector partners and commissioners with Leeds commitment as a Fast Track City exemplifying our shared goals towards universal HIV treatment, prevention and living well with HIV.
