We are seeking to appoint to a Specialty Doctor post within Adult Mental Health Services, based in Scunthorpe and covering the area of North Lincolnshire. The Trust provides a comprehensive adult, child, older adult, learning disability, and community forensic mental health services to Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire. It also provides Community Physical Health Services and Substance Misuse Services in Doncaster.

The team in North Lincolnshire is keen to welcome applications from dynamic psychiatrists with a progressive approach to MDT working, to provide medical input to patient care for adults of working age in our Acute Care Pathway.

Applicants must have at least 4 years experience in psychiatry post-graduation. They should have evidence of good communication skills and a commitment to multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.

This post will work in a team which aims to support people as close to home as possible during mental health crisis, avoid admission where possible, and work to support people being early-discharged from inpatient wards to home to continue treatment. The doctor will also work to support the intended development of our Open Access service which will start to provide a meaningful alternative to people being assessed in A&E from September 2026 and will be done in collaboration with local mental health third sector organisations and peer support workers.

Main duties of the job

Conduct initial psychiatric assessments, mental state examinations, and risk assessments for new patients.

Formulate treatment plans in collaboration with consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case discussions.

Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, ensuring adherence to NICE guidelines.Manage medical emergencies and liaise with general medical teams as required.

Work closely and communicate effectively with others involved in patient care.

Participate in discharge planning and liaise with community mental health teams to ensure continuity of care.

Opportunity to supervise and teach medical students and junior colleagues.

To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.

Participate in audit, quality improvement projects, and service development initiatives where appropriate.

To support and participate in the scheme of Clinical Governance within the service.

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to evidence based practice and to the application of NICE guidelines and Trust guidelines relevant to patients.

To comply with Trust policies, procedures and to contribute to the formulation of Trust clinical policies as appropriate.

To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.

To participate fully in the Clinical Governance activity of the service.
