Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor Breast Clinician to join our friendly and forward-thinking Breast Imaging team within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board in University Hospital Llandough.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled clinician with a strong interest in breast imaging to contribute to a high-quality, patient-centred diagnostic service. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary environment supporting the delivery of breast services.

You will join a well-established team of consultant breast radiologists, breast surgeons , radiographers and nursing staff, delivering comprehensive diagnostic and interventional breast imaging services across our sites.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of breast imaging services, supporting both screening and symptomatic pathways. Duties will include:

  • Reporting and interpretation of breast imaging, including mammography, ultrasound and MRI where appropriate
  • Performing and/or supporting image-guided interventional procedures such as ultrasound-guided and stereotactic biopsies
  • Participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, contributing to clinical decision-making and patient management
  • Reading screening mammograms (subject to accreditation/experience)
  • Contributing to the delivery of timely, high-quality diagnostic services in line with national standards and targets
  • Working collaboratively with consultants, advanced practitioners and wider clinical teams to ensure safe and effective patient care
  • Participation in audit, quality improvement initiatives, and service development
  • Supporting teaching and training of junior doctors, radiographers and other healthcare professionals where appropriate

The post holder will be expected to maintain high professional standards, comply with Trust policies, and contribute to continuous service improvement.

Experience

Essential

  • Four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or part-time equivalent) including completion of Foundation Programme or equivalent
  • Minimum two years' experience in a relevant specialty (e.g. breast radiology, breast surgery, genetics, general practice)
  • Evidence of safe assessment and management of patients
  • Experience of managing emergencies

Desirable

  • Experience of working in Breast Radiology, Breast Surgery, General Practice, Oncology or another relevant specialty
  • Previous experience of breast clinics/diagnostic services/cancer pathways

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or recognised equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Eligible to undertake the RCR Credential in Breast Disease Management

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications
  • Higher degree
  • Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions etc.)
