We are pleased to offer a part-time (22.5 hours per week) Band 6 permanent post within the Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) in the London Borough of Brent.

We are a dynamic and welcoming team, focused on providing high standard patient-centred care with emphasis on continuing service development and excellent links with our community multidisciplinary team and the local acute SLTs. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative Speech and Language Therapist to complete our Adult SLT Team.

This is a newly established Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) post, providing specialist domiciliary and outpatient assessment, management and intervention for adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing impairments, with a particular focus on clients residing in community care homes.

You will have a rewarding experience working with patients across the area of Brent, a vibrant multicultural London Community. You will have the opportunity to engage with service development such as research, audits and QI projects, for which CLCH also offers comprehensive training and support.

In our team we emphasise a supportive team environment. As such, your clinical development will be a priority and you will receive regular supervision including 1:1, peer supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development opportunities both internal and external. You will also have opportunities to support the development of junior colleagues and SLT students.

Main duties of the job

Key duties in this role include:

• To prioritise and manage a highly complex mainly neurological caseload independently making differential diagnosis & clinical management decisions on the basis of evidence from assessment frequently weighing up complex clinical management decisions in the context of conflicting clinical indicators.
• To analyse auditory, visual and kinaesthetic aspects of client’s communication and to identify appropriate strategies to facilitate and enhance communicative effectiveness in the home, at work and other relevant settings
• To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by developing and implementing Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Treatment evidence-based practice programmes providing thorough evaluation of clinical outcomes.
• To use clinical judgement and specialist skills to evaluate deterioration in client’s health status, communicating effectively to the appropriate professionals in a timely manner
• To demonstrate skills in motivating clients and /or carers to engage in the therapeutic process.
• To develop clear multidisciplinary clinical protocols based on best practice. To demonstrate high level of clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
• To actively participate and take a lead on SLT Triage for new referrals as required.
