Main duties of the job
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the safety and welfare of all pregnant women and their babies in receipt of care within East and North Hertfordshire NHS Teaching Trust services. In order to undertake this, the post holder will manage and lead the safeguarding midwifery and perinatal mental health team, and will contribute to delivering the wider safeguarding and mental health services.
You will be responsible for offering expert advice and guidance to staff in all matters relating to maternity safeguarding and perinatal mental health and to ensure that we develop a confident and competent workforce that is able to recognise and appropriately respond to any safeguarding concerns.
Working closely with the wider safeguarding team you will continually improve and develop the safeguarding agenda, aligning with the Trust's strategic agenda, as well as local and national safeguarding priorities and guidance. Providing effective communication, networking and liaison, establishing and maintaining good working relationships within health services and other agencies to ensure that information relating to safeguarding is up to date and embedded in practice.

Previous Experience
Essential
- Extensive knowledge of National and Local NHS, N&M and safeguarding agenda
- Experience in Maternity Healthcare- Acute and community setting with evidence of leadership qualities
- Experience of child protection/safeguarding
- Formal and informal teaching experience
- Staff and Resource Management experience
- Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of safeguarding children, local and National policies and guidance
- Up to date knowledge of: - NMC Code of Professional Conduct - Safeguarding Children processes - Hand hygiene and Care Bundles - Health and Safety awareness - Clinical Governance and quality issues - Risk management - Equality and Diversity - HR policies
- Experience of introducing change to the clinical environment
- Report writing skills and experience

Qualifications / Training
Essential
- Registered Midwife
- First degree or equivalent
- Evidence of post-qualification study in safeguarding

- Professional development to Masters level (Post Graduate Certificate/MBA/MSc or equivalent)
- Safeguarding qualification
