The Role

In this role, the Specialist Radiographer will justify/authorise and perform Radiographic examinations, providing direct care and a high quality diagnostic imaging service for the management of patients referred from clinicians and other referrers in NHS Lanarkshire. You will also Supervise Radiographers and SHCSW ensuring continuity of service delivery.

In this key role, you will:

  • Act independently in the assessment of referrals for x-ray examinations, taking full responsibility for the authorisation of general x-ray examinations in order to reduce unnecessary ionising radiation exposure of patients in accordance with IR(ME)R.
  • Supervise Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and SHCSW
  • Be actively involved in the implementation of radiographic procedures.
  • Assess patient condition whether that be physically, mentally and/or emotionally prior to and during each examination in order to provide the best possible image
  • Clinically evaluate images in order to assess quality, and to determine the need for additional images to further aid patient diagnosis.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in the safe operation of x-ray equipment and manage faults effectively.
  • Be able to exercise personal responsibility and make decisions in complex and unpredictable circumstances

What You'll Bring:

  • Registered Radiographer with valid HCPC Registration
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level
  • Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.
  • Full, valid UK/EU/EEA drivers licence
