Job description

The post-holder will be required to undertake plain film radiography and a range of specialist examinations in CT.

The post-holder will be expected to develop and maintain a high personal standard of clinical and organisational skills in CT. Furthermore they will be required to undertake additional training as required.

Good communication, teamwork and patient interaction are essential in this post.

Required to partake fully in the out of hours rota to maintain 24/7 service, including 7 day working as part of normal working week.

Specialist Radiographer (CT/Plain Film Rotation), Band 6, Acute Directorate, Altnagelvin Radiology Department. The post reports to the Radiology Department Manager and is accountable to the Radiology Services Manager.

Main duties and responsibilities

• To undertake a wide range of Radiology exams including CT.
• To maintain a high standard of service by complying with National and Departmental Quality Standards.
• To support the Team Lead Radiographers in CT and other staff for the efficient throughput of work, and maintain stocks and supplies in the assigned work area.
• To undertake the duties of the post in accordance with the Trust and Directorate policies including standard operating policies for all imaging protocols, health and Safety at Work order(1978), and to act as an IRMER post holder when required under the guidelines in the Trust’s Employer’s Procedures.
• To partake in the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) appraisal process as required.
• To attend post registration training and education courses as directed by the Radiography Manager.
• Full participation in the rota associated with 24/7 delivery of the CT Service In Altnagelvin Hospital is an essential part of this post.
• To assist in routine inspection of equipment and quality assurance procedures.
• To keep up to date with current techniques and developments in Imaging and in CT specifically by maintaining your personal Continuous Personal Development (CPD) record.
• To be familiar with the principles of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and to participate fully in Directorate and Trust CQI/Audit activities.
• To communicate effectively with patients, staff and the public including those with specific needs e.g. those with learning difficulties, challenging behaviours.
• The post holder will have a role as both supervisor and supervisee in line with the Regional Allied Health professions Supervision Policy.
• The post holder will promote and support effective team working, fostering a culture of openness and transparency.
• The post holder will ensure that they take all concerns raised with them seriously and act in accordance with ‘Your right to raise a concern (Whistleblowing)’ policy and their professional code of conduct, where applicable.

Person specification

Experience / Qualifications

• Essential: BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or Diploma of the College of Radiographers, London (or equivalent)
• Essential: Registered or eligible for registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
• Essential: 2 years post graduate experience in diagnostic radiography
• Essential: Previous CT experience not essential as, extensive In house training will be provided to attain competency in this specialised area of Radiography. Successful candidates MUST complete PGC in CT to complement in house experience/ short courses (PGC time frame depending on course availability)
• Essential: Applicants who have 12 months post graduate experience may apply and will progress to Band 6 on reaching 2 years’ experience.

Other

• Essential: Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car is essential. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
