Are you looking to develop your skills within trauma? An opportunity has arisen within our Band 6 trauma and orthopaedic and vascular physiotherapy rotation. 12 month fixed term available.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our team. You will need to be able to manage a varying and complex caseload of in-patients and have experience of discharge planning. The post is rotational and involves 9 monthly rotations through a variety of areas including Major Trauma, elective Orthopaedics, trauma Orthopaedics and plastics, surgical rehabilitation, Vascular Surgery and amputee and prosthetic rehabilitation.
You will work 37.5 hours/week over 7 days. You would be joining a supportive, well established team committed to providing a high standard of clinical care and modernising services to meet the needs of patients, referrers and commissioners. You will work closely with established multi-disciplinary teams and be supported by a team of experienced Band 7 and 8 therapists. The Department actively supports Continuing Professional Development and runs an established appraisal system and a comprehensive in-service training programme.
Main duties of the job
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including management of patients in your care.
- To undertake a comprehensive assessment and re-assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentation.
- To communicate effectively, using a range of verbal and non-verbal skills, with patients and carers/family to motivate, maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure an understanding of their condition.
- To plan and prioritise own caseload independently on a day-to-day basis to ensure patients are appropriately seen, in conjunction with the priorities of the team and to give assistance to other team members as required.
- To undertake the measurement and evaluation of your own work and current practice through the use of projects, audit or outcome measures, whether individually or with the support of senior staff.
- The job holder is required to participate in the overnight on call rota and will do so once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies, (specific rota details are held locally within departments).

Experience
Essential
- Proven relevant clinical experience in trauma and orthopaedics.
- Broad experience in core physiotherapy specialities required-neurology, MSK, ITU, acute respiratory, surgery, elderly care and trauma and orthopaedics
- Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy and multidisciplinary team
- To have undertaken audit and/or research, either within area of physiotherapy speciality or as part of the MDT.
- Experience of clinical education of staff, students or assistants.
- Experience of supervision of students/ physiotherapy assistants, with development of basic supervision skills.
- Experience of on-call and weekend working in an acute hospital
- Demonstrate an understanding of the use of evidence based practice in speciality
Desirable
- Previous experience in the NHS as a qualified physiotherapist
- Previous Band 6 experience in relevant post
- Involvement with Clinical Governance issues and an understanding of their relation to patient care
Education/ Qualifications
Essential
- Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy.
- State registration with the Health Professions Council.
- Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio.
- Able to demonstrate specialist learning from junior rotations, formal post-graduate level learning and informal CPD (both general and specific to clinical fields of speciality).
Desirable
- Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
- Membership of CSP special interest groups relevant to speciality
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential
- Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to this specialist area.
- Able to use knowledge of a range of treatment approaches in the management of trauma and orthopaedic conditions.
- Able to make sound clinical decisions based on knowledge/ experience/circumstances and utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills
- Able to carry out manual therapy techniques and therapeutic handling, requiring skilful and strenuous physical effort during the working day.
- Ability to remain up to date with professional practice and research and integrate this into daily patient management.
- Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate as appropriate and manage time effectively.
- Ability to seek guidance and assistance when required and to be aware of personal limitations.
- Ability to cope with working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients or carers.
- Competent IT skills.
- Good presentation skills.
- Able to collect and collate monthly statistics, utilising spreadsheets and databases as required.
- Remain updated with professional practice and new research
- To make sound judgments and reliable decisions in a variety of demanding situations.
- Self motivated and able to work unsupervised.
- Able to work flexibly responding to the needs of the service.
