Main duties of the job

This role provides an exciting opportunity to join our highly skilled neurophysiotherapy team at Frenchay Brain Injury Centre in Bristol (part of the Active Care Group). We are a 52 bedded Level 1 and Level 2 specialist inpatient rehabilitation service for the South West of England, rehabilitating patients with complex neurological needs following acquired or traumatic brain injury and other neurological conditions.

Job responsibilities

You will have existing skills in neurorehabilitation and be highly motivated to improve patient outcomes through your treatment approaches, based on the best available evidence. You will be working with a close interdisciplinary team of Doctors, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Psychologists therefore teamwork and communication skills will be key.

Your clinical work will cover:

  • Medical and physical management of spasticity including splinting and serial casting
  • Complex postural management
  • Disorders of consciousness
  • Assessment for and provision of orthotics
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Use of specialist equipment e.g. the Lite-Gait overhead walking harness and treadmill; Quest electric standing frames; standard and motomed exercise bikes and tilt tables
  • Management of Behaviours that Challenge
  • Tracheostomy management and weaning
  • Patient centred goal setting

Managerially you will:

  • Take a pro-active and supportive role in service development
  • Provide supervision and appraisal for team members
  • Deliver both local in-service and more formal training
  • Be involved in centre wide initiatives

You will receive excellent clinical support and supervision with a commitment to your ongoing training and development.
