Essential

- • Practice within the HCPC standards of proficiency, CPD and conduct, performance and ethics including ability to keep accurate and legal documentation in English.

- • Able to participate on weekend rotas supporting in-patient trauma and orthopaedic services.
Experience
Essential
- • Post registration clinical experience in core specialities at band 5 (or equivalent) level including musculoskeletal outpatients.
- • Outpatient management of musculoskeletal conditions including persistent pain, referred from GP and secondary care i.e., orthopaedics, rheumatology, pain clinic.
- • Providing treatment to patients from diverse backgrounds and ensuring where possible, equity in treatment.
Desirable
- • Previous experience at band 6 (or equivalent) level in relevant clinical speciality.
- • Previous experience of working in an NHS setting or equivalent.
- • Deputise for team lead where needed in meetings and management of operational tasks i.e. sickness reporting.
Qualifications and Training
Essential
- • Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy
- • HCPC registration.
Desirable
- • Current CPD within musculoskeletal speciality and physiotherapy profession.
Clinical knowledge and skills
Essential
- • Systematic assessment of common musculoskeletal conditions including spinal and peripheral presentations with sound clinical reasoning based on the biopsychosocial model and formulation of primary hypothesis with consideration of differential diagnosis.
- • Able to competently assess for sinister or non-MSK diagnosis and evidence escalation/action as required using local pathways and national guidance.
- • Develop holistic, patient centred management plans that incorporate shared decision making and appropriate signposting/referrals for support with psychological or social factors
- • Skilled delivery of exercise prescription for the management of musculoskeletal conditions in 1:1 and class settings with available resources and knowledge of behaviour change techniques
- • Able to demonstrate adaptive written, verbal and non-verbal communication with patients at all stages of their care including the communication of complex concepts i.e. persistent pain
- • Competent at manual techniques including orthopaedic testing, general handling, and manual therapy with awareness current evidence-based practice
- • Understands the principles of adjuncts such as (TENS, shockwave therapy, orthotics) and its application to the management of musculoskeletal conditions
Desirable
- • Triage musculoskeletal referrals appropriately to outpatient physiotherapy and secondary care services.
- • Assess and treat more specialist referrals such as major trauma, shockwave, hands/plastics, pelvic health and patients with complex conditions.
- • Training in communication techniques such as motivational interviewing or psychologically informed collaborative conversations (PIC-C).
Non-clinical knowledge and skills
Essential
- • Can present information, written and orally in a clear and logical manner to staff.
- • Work effectively in a team, motivating self and others including excellent communication,
- • Organisation, prioritisation, time management and delegation to manage your own caseload and support others.
- • Work within a busy outpatient setting that can be stressful and unpredictable at times with implementation of appropriate management strategies for own well-being and timely escalation of concerns.
- • Manage emotional or aggressive patients and carers with appropriate action and escalation
Desirable
- • Audit process, research skills i.e. critical appraisal and implementation of quality improvement projects (QIP) using standard models.
- • Good computer skills including word, excel and power point.
- • Delivery of teaching to all staff and the MDT
- • Supervision of junior staff, students and support workers with experience of appraisals and supporting performance management
