An exciting opportunity has become available to join our dynamic and  integrated Therapy Team within South Kerrier.

As the band 6 Occupational Therapist on the ward at Helston Community Hospital, the postholder will be expected to hold and manage a complex clinical caseload and facilitate appropriate rehabilitation and discharge from hospital.

You will demonstrate highly specialist skills in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with a wide variety of long term/acute medical conditions and be responsible for the development of support staff through regular supervision and appraisals. You must have excellent communication skills with an empathetic and caring nature. You will need to be highly organised and have experience of working in older person’s services.

As a therapy team we offer a supportive working environment where you can further develop your clinical and interpersonal skills. We have a  supervision and appraisal system and you will be actively encouraged to participate in the student education programme.  We work very closely with both the inpatient ward team and wider Integrated Community Team.

Main duties of the job

As part of the role you will be expected to deliver high quality care working as part of an MDT to facilitate safe and timely hospital discharges.

It will be a requirement of the role to actively promote independence and individualised care planning to ensure gold standard care is delivered

  • Reflective practitioner with portfolio evidence to support this

Skills and aptitude

Essential

  • Highly specialist skills in assessing and treating a wide variety of patients
  • Advanced rehabilitation skills in all activities of daily living with a reablement approach using advanced knowledge of discharge options and agencies
  • Ability to deliver specialist cognitive assessment and therapy to complex patients
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the management of elder care especially falls

Desirable

  • Specialist skills and experience in postural management and specialist seating

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • Professional qualification – Occupational Therapist
  • HCPC registration
  • Previous experience working in an Inpatient setting
  • Experience of managing complex situations

Desirable

  • Experience in leadership and managing a team
