Join our warm, welcoming and highly skilled Dementia and Older People’s Community Mental Health Service as a Specialist Occupational Therapist, where you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of people across Cornwall every day.

Working within friendly, supportive multidisciplinary teams, you will provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention for people aged 75 and over experiencing functional mental health disorders, as well as individuals of all ages living with dementia.

Our teams are passionate about promoting independence, wellbeing and recovery/optimsation, ensuring that person-centred care remains at the heart of everything we do.

As a senior clinician, you will play an important role in shaping service development, supporting colleagues and contributing to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care across the county.

We are particularly committed to strengthening and expanding our Young Onset Dementia (YOD) services, recognising the unique needs of people living with dementia at a younger age.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing this area of practice, working collaboratively with community partners, voluntary organisations and local stakeholders across Cornwall to create innovative pathways and opportunities for support.

Main duties of the job

  • To maintain and further develop the current Occupational Therapy role within the Community Mental Health Team, including 1:1 and group provision.
  • Provision of Occupational Therapy to a defined caseload of patients within the Community Mental Health Service, using evidence-based practice, Occupational Therapy process and client centred principles.
  • To contribute to assessment and planning, implementation, and evaluation of interventions within the context of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • To support with generic tasks within the team as required.
  • To contribute to the development of the Trust Occupational Therapy Service and best practice initiatives.
  • To support with the development of Occupational Therapy support worker role within the team.

Knowledge and Abilities

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions relevant to clinical area e.g. COPM, MOHO
  • Highly developed clinical knowledge base in mental health and psychosocial interventions

Desirable

  • Leadership experience / qualification

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

Essential

  • HCPC Registration
  • BSC/Diploma Occupational Therapy
  • Substantial Post registration experience as an OT, predominantly in mental health.
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification, e.g. AMPS,DBT, SI, Psychosocial intervention or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience of working with patients with complex and challenging needs

Desirable

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of working with rehabilitation principles
  • Experience of working within the community environment.
