We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic dietitian to join our team due to an internal secondment. This role would suit an experienced Band 6 or Band 7 paediatric dietitian who would like to work in neonates to further develop their neonatal dietetic skills.
We are part of the largest NHS acute trust in England, with one of the busiest Paediatric Services in London. We have 31 Paediatric Dietitians who work across four sites and provide tertiary paediatric services including Surgery, Cystic Fibrosis, Gastroenterology, Allergy, Neonatology, Neurology, Diabetes and PICU. We have a diverse cultural and ethnic population and cover both affluent as well as socially-deprived areas.
You will be joining a Band 8a Specialist Dietitian and three experienced Band 7 Neonatal Dietitians based across the trust at The Royal London Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital and Newham University Hospital. You will work closely with the other Dietitians as part of a supportive and collaborative neonatal team as well as other MDT members.
You will need to have good clinical dietetic experience. Acute Paediatric experience is essential. Some Neonatal experience is highly desirable. You must have excellent communication skills and enjoy working within a dynamic multidisciplinary environment.
We have a well-established programme of audit and quality improvement, and fully encourage CPD. This is a fantastic opportunity to further develop your career within Neonates.
Main duties of the job
- To work within the multidisciplinary team, to provide highly specialised dietetic advice to children and their families and carers, predominantly within the Neonatal Unit and support as required in the Neonatal outpatient clinic.
- To provide support to the Paediatric Dietetic service at Royal London Hospital, as appropriate
- The post holder would undertake quality improvement and/or audit on a regular basis to ensure that practice is evidence based.

- • Experience of delivering student supervision
- • Experience of delivering dietetic education to MDT members
- • Experience of supervising junior members of clinical staff
- • Ability to work effectively single handedly with individuals and groups
- • Ability to problem solve, analyse complex clinical problems and create practical solutions to provide best clinical care
- • Leadership skills
- • Accurate anthropometric measurement skills and interpretation of growth to assess patients’ nutritional status and to devise a clinical plan
- • Ability to take own initiative and to be the lead for a clinical speciality
- • Experience of carrying out audit/quality improvement projects
- • Up to date IT skills (Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint) and familiarity with the use of AI
Experience
Essential
- • Significant experience working as a Neonatal Dietitian or as Paediatric Dietitian with ideally some neonatal experience
- • Understanding of team dynamics and experience of working within multicultural teams
- • Experience of effectively dealing with safeguarding concerns
- • Experience of supporting inclusivity and diversity in the workplace
Desirable
- • Experience of working in a Level 2,3 Neonatal Unit
- • Experience of working with surgical paediatric/neonatal patients
Qualifications
Essential
- • BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or relevant postgraduate qualification.
- • Qualification in Paediatric Dietetics or evidence of significant experience.
- • HCPC Registration
Desirable
- • Neonatal Modules 2 and 5
- • Teaching qualification
