Specialist Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician – Band 6 (1 year Fixed term).
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward‑thinking, enthusiastic and highly motivated Specialist Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician to join our established and dedicated ward‑based pharmacy team on a 1‑year fixed‑term contract.
The post holder will act as a Deputy Lead within the Medicines Management Service, supporting the training and development of pharmacy staff, overseeing rota planning, providing day‑to‑day supervision, and contributing to the ongoing development of services.
This is also a patient‑focused role where you will contribute to medicines optimisation by promoting safe medicines administration and supporting initiatives to reduce recurring long‑term admissions and improve patient outcomes.

Essential Requirements: NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) or equivalent; GPhC registration; substantial hospital pharmacy experience; Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician certificate.

Main duties of the job
- Support the operational and professional leadership of the technician‑led ward pharmacy service within the Medicines Management Service.
- Support and contribute to the appraisal, performance review, and development of Medicines Management Pharmacy Technicians (MMPTs).
- Assist the Chief Pharmacy Technician (MMS) and Associate Chief Pharmacist – Clinical Services in the strategic development and progression of clinical pharmacy services.
- Assist in the development, review, and maintenance of clinical service policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Support the development, training, and competency progression of pharmacy technicians working on wards.
- Support, develop, and deliver training and education sessions to: Registered healthcare professionals Non‑registered staff

Experience
Essential
- Significant post qualification experience in hospital pharmacy setting.
- Significant experience of being a clinical ward technician
- Proven ability to manage complex teams effectively and experience of managing pharmacy staff.
- Evidence of successfully recruiting staff
- Evidence of successfully managing a significant change in the pharmacy department
- Previous experience of training / supervision of other staff.
Desirable
- Primary Care Experience.
- Experience of managing a ward based or equivalent clinical service.
- Working across different site bases.
- Experience of self-medication schemes and patient medication counselling.
- Experience of conducting / being involved with a quality improvement project.

- Awareness of current NHS issues including national and local priorities
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of risk management

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ in Pharmacy Services Level 3 or equivalent.
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- National Medicines Management Course (HEE Meds op / AIMM) or equivalent.
- Holds or working towards Practice Supervisor qualification or equivalent
- National Accredited Checking Qualification
- Evidence of commitment to CPD and maintains an up to date CPD portfolio
Desirable
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
- Hold or working towards Educational Supervisor qualification or equivalent.
