Working with a dedicated Community Dental Service team, you’ll provide expert dental care for adults with special needs, helping to improve oral health and quality of life for some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. You’ll support patients with complex medical, physical, social and behavioural needs, working closely with families, carers and other professionals to deliver safe, person-centred care.
This is an important clinical leadership role where you will help develop services, support colleagues and contribute to high standards of care, governance and continuous improvement across Adult Special Care Dentistry.
What you’ll do:
- Assess, diagnose and provide specialist dental treatment for adults with complex needs
- Work with carers, families and health professionals to plan holistic patient care
- Provide clinical leadership, guidance and training to dental colleagues
- Support service development, clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities
- Maintain high standards of patient safety, record keeping and professional practice
Main duties of the job
What we’re looking for:
- Current registration with the General Dental Council and inclusion on the Specialist List in Special Care Dentistry
- Experience treating adults with special needs and managing complex clinical cases
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with patients, carers and colleagues
- A commitment to clinical excellence, ethical practice and continuous learning
- Experience supporting, supervising or developing others is welcomed

- Knowledge and use of evidence-informed practice and guidelines in Paediatric Dentistry
- Management of children with special needs
- Knowledge of regulations and legislation pertaining to dentistry
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and financial awareness
Desirable
- Knowledge of Carestream R4 system
Experience
Essential
- Wide range of clinical experience
- Demonstrable experience of treating children with special needs
- Previous experience of working in Community Dental Services
- Experience of working with other agencies
- Experience of planning and delivering education and supervision
- Experience of treating patients with conscious sedation
Desirable
- Experience of leading and managing in relation to governance in Paediatric Dentistry
Qualifications

- Full registration with the GDC
- Must be on a Performer List
- Current registration on the GDC Specialist List in Paediatric Dentistry

- Dental Postgraduate qualification related to Paediatric Dentistry
