Job overview

Applications are invited from radiologists who have experience in cardiothoracic and cardiovascular imaging. The successful applicant will have the opportunity for in-house training and work along with our team of eleven experienced cardiothoracic radiologists and six cardiologists with imaging interest.

Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH) is a successful NHS Foundation Trust, dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiothoracic diseases, with an outstanding group of cardiac and thoracic surgeons, radiologists and chest physicians and cardiologists. Our Trust has its own research department which provides excellent support for those colleagues interested in research and innovation.

This post was created to accommodate for the increase in the demand of cardiovascular and cardiothoracic imaging studies, securing an adequate workload to each of the consultants. Our department provides the best technology for cardiothoracic imaging, with two MRI scanners, including a wide bore, 1.5T cardiac optimized Siemens Sola MR scanner and a 3T VIDA Siemens and two dual energy CT scanners, (Siemens FORCE scanners) and it is fully integrated with PACS.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Independently report: Cardiothoracic CT (including cardiac, lung cancer, aortic imaging) MRI (cardiac/thoracic depending on experience) Chest radiographs
  • Cardiothoracic CT (including cardiac, lung cancer, aortic imaging)
  • MRI (cardiac/thoracic depending on experience)
  • Chest radiographs
  • Perform image-guided procedures (where trained), including: CT-guided lung biopsies
  • CT-guided lung biopsies
  • Support: Inpatient and outpatient imaging services Urgent and emergency imaging
  • Inpatient and outpatient imaging services

  • Candidates without procedural experience will be supported to develop these skills.

Multidisciplinary Team Working

  • Attend and contribute to: Lung Cancer MDT Cardiac imaging MDT

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

JOB PLAN

The job is intended to be a full time (10 PA) post in cardiovascular and cardiothoracic imaging radiology, desirably with experience in US, doppler and lung biopsies at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. The job plan will include 1.5 SPA.

The job plan can be flexible per week depending on the departmental service needs and candidate’s individual interests and needs.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated radiologist to develop subspecialist expertise in cardiothoracic imaging within a nationally recognised centre, with a clearly supported pathway to Consultant practice.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration

Desirable

  • Postgraduate degree (eg MSc, MD, PhD).
  • Level II/III Cardiac CT
  • Level II/III Cardiac MRI
  • FRCR or Equivalent

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT Radiology training
  • Training in cardiovascular and cardiothoracic imaging
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in cardiovascular MRI and CT, including coronary CT, structural heart imaging (TAVI reporting), cardiac MRI, stress cardiac MRI
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients in the Radiology Department.

Desirable

  • An area sub-specialisation and willingness to innovate and develop services.
  • General / vascular, renal and Carotid Doppler.
  • Congenital (adult) cardiac imaging (CT and/or MRI)
