Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children and young people? We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Dietitian to join our Durham and Darlington CAMHS services, working within child and adolescent mental health and learning disabilities.

You’ll play a vital role in delivering specialist, evidence-based dietetic care to young people with complex needs, including faltering growth, selective eating, disordered eating, and weight management. Your work will help restore health and empower service users to live their lives to the fullest. There may also be opportunities to support the CAMHS Specialist Eating Disorders Service.

A Registered Dietitian with experience in complex dietetic interventions for mental health, learning disabilities, and neurodivergence. A dynamic, enthusiastic professional who thrives in a multi-disciplinary environment and values collaboration. What You’ll Do:

Deliver high-quality, person-centred dietetic care in community settings. Work closely with CAMHS teams, Acute Trust partners, and key stakeholders. Contribute to service improvement and embrace a culture of participation and wellbeing.

Main duties of the job

The successful postholder will promote and maintains safety, privacy, and dignity of all service users in the delivery of person-centred care, recognising and respecting differences including spiritual and cultural beliefs. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest professional standards and attitudes towards the care of service users are always maintained and that care is delivered in accordance with Clinical Guidelines and the Trust’s Values and behaviours.

The postholder will assess service users including those with complex needs and develops, implements, and evaluates intervention plans as part of the MDT, with the involvement of young people and their families and in accordance with their individual need. This includes undertaking complex dietetic assessments and developing individualised dietetic care plans. In addition, you will provide updates and reports on service users progress at clinical meetings and makes recommendations to inform the clinical decision-making process regarding service user care as part of the MDT.

You will maintain up to date knowledge and competency in the skills required to perform safely and effectively in the role as well as undertake relevant training (including statutory and mandatory training) and be responsible for personal development agreed with the line manager and in line with the requirements of the AFC Knowledge and Skills Framework.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Our Dietetic Team is the largest and most established Specialist Mental Health and Learning Disability dietetic team in the UK and has strong links with the British Dietetic Association. Our Dietitians work into Adult Eating disorders, Adult Mental Health, Children and Adolescent Mental Health and Eating Disorders, Adult Learning Disabilities, Mental Health Services for Older People and Secure Inpatient Services. We are supported by our Professional Head of Dietetics and have a large group of highly skilled Clinical Specialist and Lead Dietitians.

We have regular speciality team meetings to develop skills and provide peer support and can provide training and support to engage with the complex needs of the patient group. We have a robust clinical and management supervision structure and support continued professional training and development.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the needs of service users with mental health conditions or learning disabilities.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of evidence based practice in designated specialist area
  • Post graduate training in specialist area if applicable to post (e.g. dysphagia, autism diagnostics)
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of managing complex Dietetic cases
  • Awareness of professional standards and its application to practice
  • Clinical risk assessment and application in practice

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 12 months post qualifying experience (at the point of application) of Dietetic delivery /completion of AYSE for social work (post 2012) pre 2012 evidence of experience in accordance with professional capabilities framework for an experienced social worker (at point of application)

Desirable

  • Experience of supporting people with mental health issues, learning disability or autism
  • Experience of working in Multidisciplinary Team

Qualifications

Essential

  • Appropriate professional qualification in Dietetics
  • Current relevant registration with specific regulatory body
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) level 7 (SLT =8) for International recruits

Desirable

  • Post graduate training in relevant specialist area
