Job overview

We are looking for an experienced, innovative Renal Dietitian to join our expanding team of Dietitians, delivering an integrated acute and community service across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

You will have the opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills within the Dietetic Service utilising advances in technology to deliver dietetic support for patients across the county, within inpatients, outpatients, dialysis units, and the home haemodialysis team, as well as supporting the band 5 dietitians and assistant practitioners in the wider team

We welcome applications from dietitians with previous renal experience wanting to develop their knowledge and skills further with our specialist dietetic team and highly supportive renal multi-disciplinary team. Passion for renal dietetics is essential, but previous experience within the speciality is not required as full training can be provided. We also welcome applications from band 5 practitioners who are looking to further their knowledge and skills in this speciality and we are open to the possibility of a band 5- 6 development plan over 12-18 months for the right candidate. We are committed to your professional and personal development. Shadowing, networking and clinical supervision from Renal Dietitians within the team as part of your development journey will be provided as well as regular meetings with a senior member of the team and participation in our dynamic in-house service CPD Programme is encouraged

Main duties of the job

Along with HCPC registration, the successful applicant will ideally have some previous experience of working as a Renal Dietitian and sound communication skills. An interest in developing leadership skills and commitment to work within our Trust values is essential.

  • To assess, diagnose/interpret and manage own specialist caseload of complex patients as autonomous practitioner in accordance with Professional Code of Conduct and Health and Care Professions Council Regulations.
  • To have developed, through experience and postgraduate training, the specialist knowledge and clinical skills required for the post.
  • The post holder will work in close co-operation with colleagues within all Care Groups to deliver a cohesive service that is user led ensuring a consistently high standard of patient care, optimal patient flow and safe timely discharge.
  • To work closely with team co-ordinators and senior therapists to ensure a robust structure of  training, supervision  and appraisal  is delivered to all members within the team.
  • To work closely with team co-ordinators and senior therapists to ensure the delivery of an efficient operational service.
  • To act as a source of Specialist advice and support within the Therapy Centre and across the Trust and the wider health economy.
  • To have highly effective communication skills and demonstrate these on a continual basis with patients, carers, colleagues and the wider Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT).
