An opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Band 6 Specialist Cardiac Radiographer within Cardiology & X-ray Imaging. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic HCPC registered radiographer to join our dynamic imaging team at UHPT. Applications are welcomed from Radiographers with proven experience within an acute care setting, demonstrating a sound clinical knowledge of diagnostic radiography from within the UK and the NHS in general. Previous demonstrable experience of working within a Cardiac Catheter Laboratory in the NHS & UK and participation in a 24/7 on call service is highly desirable.

Within this role you will be expected to work within a multi-disciplinary team to support the diverse range of cardiac procedures and therapies offered at the South West Cardio-Thoracic Centre (SWCC), the Tertiary Unit for the South West. We provide imaging support for Primary PCI, complex PCI including CTO's, TAVI, complex devices such as CRT-D and a variety of EPS procedures.

The department has 3 state of the art Philips Azurion 7 Cardiac Imaging Systems. These include fully integrated IVUS, OCT and pressure wire systems. There will be a rotation into the general x-ray department & a 24/7 on-call rota covering the associated with the specialty.

Recent collaboration with Cardiology has enabled suitably motivated Cardiac Radiographers to study at post graduate level in Echocardiography with a view to career progression and possible reporting opportunities at Band 7 level.

Main duties of the job

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

As a Specialist Cardiac Radiographer you would be expected to work within the HCPC Standards of Conduct and UHPT values, maintaining clinical excellence, with a demonstrable knowledge of radiation protection, good communication skills and to assist with the day-to-day organisation of the clinical area providing effective and efficient co-operation with the multi-disciplinary team.

The service hosts undergraduate radiographers on placement from the University of Exeter and the University of Plymouth as well as training apprentice radiographers, so you will be expected to be actively involved in their training and supervision as part of your role, whilst supporting the wider team. All candidates must be enthusiastic about teaching and supporting learners in the clinical environment.

This position carries a commitment to Agenda for Change compliant 7 day working at Derriford Hospital and you will be expected to work flexible hours across the week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Contribute to the day to day running of the specialist area and modality by planning, organising and prioritising the workload thus ensuring an efficient and effective throughput of patients.
• Take a lead role in the Cardiac Team, when required and when appropriate, during periods of absence of the area lead radiographer.
• Respond to the changing needs of the service daily by providing a flexible approach to the working day, thus maintaining the existing excellent standard of service and the continuing promotion of good working relationships. The work pattern will be unpredictable due to frequent interruptions and problem solving. Concentration will need to be maintained for long periods when operating equipment etc.
• Interpret and follow local and Trust Policies and Procedures, following accepted protocols and professional codes of conduct to manage own and departmental workload. Be able to manage the pressures of accommodating emergency work in addition to planned sessions.
• Support and enhance the continual quality initiative and ensure a “quality first” approach to all aspects of work despite the pressures of time and volume of workload.
• Be responsible for evaluating and maintaining the standard of work produced in your area ensuring it is of a high quality and taking corrective action where there may be problems
• Be able to assess when guidance and support is required in a particular situation.
• Be responsible for the safe use of expensive, highly complex and specialist equipment.
• Ensure that equipment faults are reported, following this up where equipment is out of use to ensure it is repaired in a timely manner. Liaising with medical physics experts as appropriate thus ensuring that equipment is safe to use for both staff and patients.
• Be responsible for informing modality leads, clinical and non-clinical staff, and any patients affected by any equipment faults, and ensure that the equipment is safe to use for both staff and patients.
