Job overview

Specialist Cardiac Physiologist

Wexham Park Hospital

The Cardiology Investigations Unit (CIU) provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic services, delivering both invasive and non-invasive cardiac investigations for inpatients and outpatients across the Trust.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Cardiac Physiologist to join our Echocardiography team. As a key member of the department, you will perform and report a wide range of echocardiographic studies, developing your expertise in increasingly advanced echocardiography techniques with support and supervision from experienced Advanced Cardiac Physiologists.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for professional development, and you will be supported to work towards Level 2 Accreditation with the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) in Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE).

In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will play an active role in education and workforce development, providing training and support to students, less experienced colleagues, cardiology specialty registrars (SpRs), and junior doctors. You will contribute to maintaining high standards of patient care while supporting the ongoing development of the wider multidisciplinary team.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your echocardiography skills within a supportive, forward-thinking department committed to excellence in patient care, education, and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

  • Following interpretation of images and data generated during TTE, produce a clinical report of the echocardiographic findings.
  • Perform diagnostic echocardiography across a range of complex clinical settings, including specialist valve assessment.
  • Interpret and report on the complex imaging and data generated during TTE for these patient groups, with senior review as required.
  • Perform transthoracic echocardiography in accordance with BSE guidelines and departmental standards.
  • Review, maintain and develop agreed standards of documentation in line with BSE guidance and departmental minimum standards, in liaison with the Lead Echo Physiologist.
  • Archive data appropriately in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and ensure practice reflects developments in clinical care.
  • Identify areas requiring improvement or development and contribute suggestions to enhance the service
