Job overview

Are you a Pharmacist looking to gain specialist experience in Haematology and Oncology? If so, Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (BFT) has an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and supportive team, working at the forefront of cancer pharmacy in the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC), City and Weston Operating Unit.

As a Specialist Cancer Pharmacist, you will collaborate with experienced Senior Pharmacists across various adult and teenage and young adult (TYA) speciality areas on rotation. This includes providing clinical pharmacy services to oncology, haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) patients, including those treated with Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell therapies (CAR-T). You will also provide aseptic services to patients throughout the Trust.

If you have a minimum of 6 months hospital experience and are working towards a post graduate certificate with a keen interest in cancer services, recruitment to a Band 6 to 7 progression post will be considered.

Main duties of the job

As you rotate through specialist areas, you will gain experience of both clinical and aseptic aspects of cancer services.

Main duties include:

  • Provision of clinical pharmacy services to specialist areas including adult and TYA oncology, haematology, BMT, CAR-T and cancer clinical trials.
  • Clinical verification of systemic anticancer therapy prescriptions for adult and TYA patients in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Undertaking the role of an authorised pharmacist in the aseptic unit on a sessional basis providing chemotherapy to adult and paediatric patients and parenteral nutrition (PN) to paediatrics and neonates.
  • Involvement with service developments, collaborating with senior pharmacists as well as engaging with other healthcare professionals including medical and nursing staff.
  • Assisting with audit, teaching, and supervision activities as appropriate.

We are committed to comprehensive patient care, so this role involves participation in other parts of the pharmacy service when required. This includes weekend commitment either to chemo on-call or BHOC clinical service; late duties; bank holidays; and participation in the pharmacist emergency duty service for the Trust.
