We are seeking two enthusiastic, motivated and professional HCPC-registered Specialist Biomedical Scientists to join our friendly and forward-thinking Histopathology Department at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
One of these posts will incorporate the role of Digital Histology Biomedical Scientist , providing an exciting opportunity for an individual with an interest in digital pathology to help drive the department's digital transformation. Working closely with Consultant Pathologists, laboratory staff, and departmental management, the successful candidate will support the implementation and ongoing development of our digital pathology service, helping to realise the Trust's digital vision. Dedicated time will be allocated to support these additional responsibilities alongside specialist Histopathology duties.
As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality Histopathology service, working collaboratively with Biomedical Scientists, Laboratory Support Workers, Pathologists and the wider multidisciplinary team. You will utilise your specialist knowledge and experience to support the provision of an efficient, safe and patient-centred diagnostic service, ensuring the highest standards of quality and professionalism are maintained.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the job are to carry out specialist technical and scientific work in a section of the laboratory. Ensure prompt processing of patient specimens including analysis, utilising highly complex automated analytical equipment, manual methods, specialist and complex testing. Perform laboratory procedures effectively, rotating through the sections of the department, to provide a comprehensive pathology service as an aid to effective diagnosis and treatment of patients. Supervise Band 5 Biomedical Scientists and other lab staff within their work area. Specialist knowledge/qualifications are required for this role.

Enhanced Check: £49.50 + administration cost of £6.50 = £56.00. Deducted from salary over following 4 months or one off payment.
