The Clinical Chemistry Depatment, alongside the Research & Development Department at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospitals are looking to recruit a Band 5/6 Biomedical Scientist with laboratory experience. Appointment to Band 6 will require the post holder to have completed a Specialist IBMS Portfolio (band 5 would be considered with the view to progressing on completion of portfolio). Applicants must be HCPC registered and, have the relevant post registration experience in a UK Pathology department.

As a Support Biomedical Scientist within our busy Women’s and Children’s Research & Development service, you will play a vital role in enabling high‑quality clinical studies that directly improve care for mothers, babies and young people. The postholder will support the delivery of research by supporting in the set up and review of studies, preparing samples, maintaining study documentation, ensuring laboratory processes run smoothly, and helping to implement study‑specific procedures. This is a varied role that combines core laboratory skills with research set up and delivery knowledge whilst offering the excitement of contributing to innovative research in a fast‑paced, patient‑focused environment. Your work will help ensure studies are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest scientific standards, ultimately shaping the future of care for women and children.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have previous experience of working in a Pathology department and be expected to maintain the required professional standards and up to date knowledge of current working practices.

Please note this post is mainly office and not laboratory based. The job will cover both the Children's and Women's Hospitals.
