We are seeking to recruit Band 6 Specialist Audiologist/Clinical Scientist in Audiology to work in the Audiology Department based at Withington Community Hospital and Wythenshawe Hospital but there may be cross site working with North Manchester Audiology on occasion. The role involves specialist hearing and diagnostic clinics.

The Department is comprised of a Audiology Service Manager, Clinical and Operational Lead, Adult, Therapy, Paediatric & Adult Cognitive and Vestibular leads, Clinical Scientists, Audiologists, Associate and Assistant practitioners, Students and 4 administration staff.

There is opportunity for CPD, and this is strongly encouraged.

Main duties of the job

To deliver a comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitation service for AQP and non-AQP patients using investigative and analytical skills to include:

Assessment and hearing management of adults with complex needs including cognitive decline and learning disabilities.

Paediatric hearing assessment.as part of ENT clinics

• Recognise when medical history or test results require referral of patient to highly specialist Audiologist or Clinical lead.
• To be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual treatment programmes
• To undertake a broad range of clinical work as a member of a multidisciplinary team responsible for the delivery of evidence-based patient care, which is of the highest standard.
• To be responsible for monitoring and improving standards of care via Quality Improvement initiatives and by the efficient and effective use of resources. They will participate with clinical audits, research, supervision of practice and teaching for junior staff, students and assistant practitioners.
• To be involved in departmental IQIPs accreditation process

You will be involved in the training and mentoring of students and research projects, as we are a dedicated teaching department and collaborate with research at the University of Manchester with whom we have close links.

You will be communicating with a range of people including professional, administrative staff and patients with communication difficulties.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

As part of our commitment to safeguarding patients and staff, many roles at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This is a standard process across the NHS and helps us ensure a safe environment for everyone.

What is a DBS Check?

A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.

Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check

Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

DBS Update Service
