The Advanced Practice Physiotherapist for Fracture/A&E will operate at an advanced level of clinical practice, providing expert triage, assessment, and management of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions and undifferentiated symptoms within a virtual setting. This specialist role acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Urgent Care and A&E pathways, ensuring clinical excellence in the identification and management of acute injuries and fractures.

Job responsibilities
Main Responsibilities
- Act as the SME for patients presenting with acute MSK injuries, including those potentially requiring A&E or Urgent Care intervention
- Conduct high-level clinical examinations from physiological and psychological perspectives to establish rapid and accurate diagnoses
- Request and interpret radiological investigations (e.g. X-rays, MRI), understanding the sensitivity and specificity required to identify acute pathology
- Expertly manage the interface between virtual assessments and face-to-face (F2F) urgent care or orthopaedic services
- Lead on the development and delivery of urgent care and fracture management training for the wider Advanced Practice team and physiotherapists
- Act as a positive role model and mentor, educating team members on the latest evidence-based acute MSK pathways
- Contribute to and lead the creation of local protocols and standards specifically for urgent care and fracture screening
- Lead on clinical investigations regarding patient complaints and incidents, with a specific focus on missed fractures and acute diagnostic errors
- Utilise structured frameworks to identify learning from near-miss events and implement service-wide changes
- Initiate and lead the audit cycle to monitor the quality of acute care delivery and ensure compliance with national clinical guidance, NICE guidelines and CQC requirements
- Collaborate with clinical leads to deliver a robust clinical governance strategy for virtual MSK services
- Provide specialist subject matter expertise to external physiotherapy providers regarding urgent care and acute injury management as required
- Support external providers with clinical incident investigations or complex case reviews involving acute injuries when requested
- Offer specialist training input to external partners to ensure alignment with HBSUK's acute clinical pathways.

Experience
Essential
- Minimum 3 years experience working within a Fracture Clinic, Orthopaedic Service, Urgent Care, or A&E
- Minimum 3 years in an autonomous MSK role as an APP or FCP
- 3 years experience requesting radiological investigations
Desirable
- Experience working in a remote role
- Experience in leading or training other APPs
Qualifications
Essential
- BSc/Grad Dip in Physiotherapy with HCPC registration
- IRMER trained and certified
Desirable
- MSc or evidence of Masters level study in Advanced Clinical Practice
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Expert clinical reasoning and the ability to adapt physical exams to a virtual setting.
- Excellent IT skills and interest in health-tech
- SME level knowledge of clinical governance and risk management
- Self-motivated and capable of acting on own initiative without supervision
- Strong communication and presentation skills
Desirable
- Knowledge of clinical governance and CQC requirements
- Interest in data analysis to improve outcomes
