Job overview

Come join the Radiology Department for a great working experience and the opportunity to develop your career in the unique environment of St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking to recruit highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 sonographers to join our friendly and well-supported ultrasound team. As our team grows here within the Trust, to accommodate the developing services, we welcome all General and Gynae trained Sonographers who wish to work in one of the most dynamic hospital environments South-West London has to offer.

Main duties of the job

The service requires all sonographers to assist in a wide range of ultrasound examinations including all general, small parts, gynaecology and basic vascular examinations. The majority of your time will be spent at St George’s Hospital in Tooting or Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton. However, you will occasionally be required to rotate through our community sites at St John’s Therapy centre in Wandsworth and the Nelson Medical Practice in Wimbledon. Site preferences will be considered when rostering to avoid difficult commutes.

This is a cross-site position, working across 4 sites with a total of 18 Ultrasound rooms to enable staff to benefit from the valuable experience and scope of practice that each department has to offer in addition to helping us meet the demand on our service. All departments are equipped with the latest ultrasound machines and software with a mixture of the latest GE, Toshiba, Samsung and Philips Ultrasound scanners.

The service also provides ultrasound imaging to the Ambulatory Care unit which provides sub-acute care via Accident & Emergency. This was the first Ambulatory Care unit in the country to have a dedicated ultrasound room situated within the unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder must be flexible, adaptable to change, prepared to embrace workforce developments and contribute to efficient service delivery through the highest standards of safe, kind and compassionate care. We actively support extended training in the department and currently have radiographers/sonographers completing: Post-graduate Diploma and Master qualifications. Along with advanced practice MSK, MSK interventional and Thyroid FNA training. Furthermore, we actively support paediatric and musculoskeletal training for those who are interested.

We offer flexible working patterns to include long days and weekend working. Part-time hours will also be considered subject to the needs of the service. We also offer 20% HCA.

You will be required to have a Diploma in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent qualification (e.g. DMU/ Pg Dip/ MSc); HCPC registration or registration with the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT); and recent NHS experience. Graduate ultrasound experience is desirable for this role, however new graduates are also encouraged to apply.
