Sonographer for Women's Health – Band 7
We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, dynamic Sonographer who is ready to join our obstetric ultrasound team and provide a high level of technical expertise across a comprehensive range of examinations.
You will be an experienced specialist diagnostic sonographer who will join the highly skilled team of sonographers, trainee sonographers, clinical fellows and midwives.
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with proven experience in working within obstetric ultrasound. It is essential that you bring a flexible and adaptable approach to meet with the challenge of this role, supporting the multi-professional team in personalising care, enhancing quality and improving the patient experience.
The Fetal Medicine unit consists of 8 scanning rooms including the Fetal Medicine/Fetal Echocardiography service.
Each scanning room and administration offices are networked with Viewpoint Fetal Database, allowing full reports to be completed and ultrasound images printed and stored electronically, and both Samsung Hera and GE machines utilised.
Main duties of the job
- To undertake ultrasound examinations competently as per departmental protocols.
- To report on ultrasound findings accurately and professionally as per departmental protocols.
- To develop and maintain a high professional and technical knowledge base and standard of work.
- To supervise the general welfare of patients whilst in the department.
- To be responsible for the safe conduct of all examinations in the area of responsibility.
- To assist with and undertake research and departmental audits in the unit.
- To maintain Nuchal Translucency certification by annual audit to maintain standards.
- To counsel patients regarding 1st Trimester screening for chromosomal abnormality and refer as appropriate.
- Responsible for the day to day management of any staff within sphere of responsibility.
- Participate in the orientation and development of new staff.
- Participate in the appraisal of untrained staff as appropriate.
- Ensure accurate and clear records are kept and that all signatures are legible.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the needs of individual team members and give support and guidance where necessary.
- Participate in departmental meetings and in meetings related to the ongoing review and evaluation of the service.
- To be familiar with the use of computers for record keeping, respecting confidentiality in line with the requirements of data protection.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Diploma in Medical Ultrasound or UK recognised equivalent
UK HCPC, or SoR registered with the voluntary register for sonographers, or recognised UK statutory body registration for competency (i.e GMC/NMC)
Knowledge of and experience in Obstetric and Gynaecological ultrasound
