Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse to support the Ward Managers and team of nursing staff within the Acute Medicine Unit at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. This comprises of an Acute Assessment Unit(AAU) and an Acute Medical Unit (AMU). There is an 8 bedded Enhanced Care facility within AMU.

This is a permanent position.

The candidate will require extensive post registration experience.

You will be an experienced RGN and be able to lead and supervise the work of the nursing team, building upon your own clinical and managerial experience.

The successful candidate must have a proven ability in supervising, managing and controlling the activities of a department in an efficient and effective manner.  This will involve the assessment and implementation of appropriate care for new and current patients whilst ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained and resources used appropriately.

You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will have a proactive management style, anticipating and dealing with issues constructively within the multidisciplinary team setting.  You must be flexible in your approach to the role and respond appropriately to the demands of an ever-changing workload.

  • You will help care for patients and make sure they get the right treatment.  • You will support and guide other staff, helping them do their jobs well.  • You will help manage the ward or department when the manager is away.  • You will make sure the team works well together and uses time and resources  wisely.  • You will talk with patients, families, and staff to make sure everyone  understands what’s happening.  • You will help train new staff and make sure care is always safe and up to date.
