Job summary

HHFT requires a Trust grade doctor to fulfil a general internal medicine post within the medical division. The postholder will be based on general internal medicine wards, experiencing a wide range of clinical cases including Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Elderly Care, Haematology and Acute Medicine. They have option to participate in the on-call rota.

The post holder will be predominately based at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, but should also be prepared to work at any HHFT site if required.

Working within a team of specialist Consultants and junior doctors, the post holder will be expected to initiate and provide sound clinical/medical practices to patients admitted to the Medicine division, whilst supporting patients' family and friends demonstrating the patient is the central focus of care.

Main duties of the job

Clerk and post take administration; writing in patients notes

Undertake patient reviews

Investigating and initiating medical management

Patient assessment

Drug prescription

Discharge administration

Promptly update patient systems

Attend clinics

Attend Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.

Facilitate daily board round with MDT

Triage to medical teams/acute physicians as appropriate

Trouble shoot patients on the ward

Participate in ward rounds

Take part in the medical on-call shift system
