Main duties of the job
As a Senior Theatre Practitioner with minimum 3 years theatre experience, you will assist in the management and organisation of work required, you may have to deputise for the Theatre Manager and act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a hight standard of preoperative care.
Within your previous theatre experience, you will be competent in a minimum of two areas of clinical practice (scrub, Anaesthetics or Recovery) within the department.
To help lead and coordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of the theatre area ensuring the highest standards of perioperative practice and care are delivered as reflected by the department philosophy.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Leadership and Managerial
Provide strong clinical leadership skills, supporting, energising, inspiring and empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the department.
Undertake the role of Floor -Coordinator regularly to facilitate the daily flow though the department.
Responsible for team leader role within theatre and take accountability for the completion of theatre lists
To be involved with department audits, in-house training and mandatory training requirements.
To recognise potential clinical challenges and ways of dealing with them and following the correct escalation process with regards to barriers or challenges
To assist and support the Theatre Manager in the establishment of an efficient working environment, making the most effective and efficient use of staff, supplies and services
Ensures that staffing and skill mix is maintained, at all times, to a level that does not compromise patient safety
People Management, Training and Education
Assist the Theater Manager in any grievance, disciplinary, performance or sickness issues as appropriate and in accordance with Trust procedures.
May be required to assist in the recruitment and retention of nursing staff
Ensure and support the Theatre Manager in the delivery of the staff appraisal programme.
Assist the Theatre Manager in developing a culture that is challenging, stimulating, rewarding and supportive.
Actively participate in the selection; training and supervision of Clinical support Workers (CSW) on the NVQ / Apprenticeship pathway.
Assess the need for and plan and implement suitable staff development programmes for perioperative staff in conjunction with the Theatre Manager within the clinical area to ensure effective care of all patients.
Assist the Theatre Manager to ensure that all students and newly appointed staff have identified mentors / preceptors.
Ensuring within mentorship that students and post-registration students allocated to the area are given appropriate teaching, support and guidance, in accordance with clinical area / personal objectives and that all documentation is complete.
Contribute and assist the Theatre Manager to foster a learning environment within the clinical area.
Be aware of the local equipment training programme for staff in relation to the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts and to maintain training records.
Compliance and Governance
May be required to lead in setting and auditing Nursing/AHP standards implemented in the department
To take an active role in risk assessment, supporting implementation of strategies to minimise risk. Ensuring incidents and near misses are reported, through promoting a no blame culture
Will be familiar with the Trusts regulations and procedures with regards to Local and National statuatory guidelines and ensure that all staff act in accordance within the guidelines
Will be fully conversant with the Trust major incident plan, and ensure that all practitioners in the department understand the procedure
Contribute to shared governance committees to meet the objectives of the Trust.
