A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 4 Senior Support Workers to join the Intensive Support Function Team for Children and Young People (CYP, ISF).
The successful post holder will work with CYP and families who require intensive support to help support neurodiversity, learning disabilities, challenging behaviours and other health needs.
We are looking for a post holder who is passionate about neurodiversity and learning disabilities, keen to make a difference, highly motivated, enthusiastic and have experience of working with children and young people who are complex in presentation.
The successful candidate will be offered a breadth of opportunities to develop your skills and all additional training will be provided.
When joining the team, you will be provided with an induction into CYP services covering all areas of care as well as shadowing clinical staff during your induction period.
You will have regular supervision and development opportunities to help support your skill set in the area of CYP LD and Neurodiversity.
This position requires you to work 9-5 Monday to Friday office based and some hybrid working. You will be based at our Manor Farm Site in Knowsley, where you will be able to park free of charge. Main duties of the job
To assist the Care co-ordinators in the assessment of needs including behaviour, mental health and any identified needed from neurodiversity. To develop and implement Care Plans and safety plans in collaboration with the CYP and family. To act as an advocate for the CYP and family. To engage supportively with the CYP. To provide appropriate psychoeducation and information to CYP and families and carers to promote coping skills. To assist CYP in accessing appropriate social, recreational and occupational activities which will aid recovery. To be aware of any clinical risk and to liaise closely with CYPMHS/Care Co-ordinator and multiagency as appropriate. To use skills and techniques gained through mandatory training to deescalate situations where there is physical or verbal aggression and take appropriate action. To be aware of the needs and rights of CYPs with respect to culture, race and gender. To work to meet the CYP’s needs, and to take a systemic approach with the family. To participate in the multidisciplinary team and attend team/clinical meetings as appropriate, e.g., CPA reviews, CAF and Safeguarding meetings. To undertake joint work with other team members and professionals as required. To liaise with Health, Social Care, School and Voluntary agencies, providing and receiving information as appropriate. To provide practical and emotional support to Children and young people (CYP) and their families.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Professional To participate in the directorate's performance management /supervision framework (including external clinical supervision) and work towards meeting identified goals and objectives as agreed in a personal development plan. To act, at all times, in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. To undertake mandatory training as stipulated by the trust and ensure that all interactions with CYPs are in line with this e.g., / Manual Handling. Under the guidance and supervision of a qualified practitioner, to make accurate and appropriate entries into health records, and to make available appropriate contact information to Children’s Centre staff. To participate in staff meetings to assist in effective two-way communication. To seek advice and further training, if appropriate, before carrying out any duty you are unsure of. To make the qualified practitioner aware of any incidents arising during your span of duty and carry out any actions arising from this as directed. Take direction from the qualified practitioner as to any duties or tasks assigned to you for your span of duty and carry them out as requested. To participate, as directed in the induction of new staff.

Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ Level 3
- Foundation degree or equivalent experience in a relevant area
- Good level of general education at a minimum
- Significant demonstrable experience working with CYP/ Families/ vulnerable groups with health needs
Desirable
- GCSE grade’s A to C in Maths and English
- Experience of working in a care setting – or working with vulnerable CYP & families
- Additional training in therapeutic interventions
- Parent courses including riding the rapids
- Positive Behaviour Support Training
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
- Able to communicate effectively.
- Understanding of issues of confidentiality
- To be able to demonstrate a non-judgemental attitude
