An exciting opportunity has arisen in our 20 bedded Intensive Care Unit for a caring, highly motivated, enthusiastic band 6 Senior Staff Nurse

As an Intensive Care Unit we're proud to have been successful in achieving university accreditation with the University of Reading. We were recently in the top 10% of hospitals in the UK in the "Friends and Family Test"

You must be a Registered Nurse with a nationally recognised Critical Care course experience. Your development within ICU is supported by a dedicated mentor and team leader who'll ensure you will have the support and guidance you require. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your leadership skills and build on your already excellent knowledge and skills base. Your leadership will contribute to a team mission to deliver person centred cared with kindness and respect and in line with our hospital values continually strive to deliver excellence in everything we do. The integral part of the Senior Staff Nurse role will be to lead and support a multi-disciplinary team. You will use your own initiative and your excellent communication skills to liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to achieve the best for our patients

As an ICU unit we offer the opportunity to care for a wide range of critically ill patients including complex elective surgery, trauma and medicine.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the Department Sister / Charge Nurse in leading the team to deliver the objectives of the clinical area. In the absence of the Department Sister / Charge Nurse, be responsible for ensuring that all Level 2 and Level 3 Critical care patients in the given clinical area receive safe, competent nursing care. Lead the team for which they are responsible, working flexibly to support other/ more junior colleagues on a day-to-day basis.

Practices in accordance with the professional, ethical, and legal codes of the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Trust's protocols and guidelines.

Demonstrates ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients/families, and carers.

Supports more junior staff and students to deliver high standards of effective patient centred care.

Displays good analytical ability and sound decision making in changing clinical situations.

Develop insight into evidence underpinning care.
