Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, innovative and enthusiastic specialist pharmacist to work in critical care. The pharmacist will have the unique opportunity to work at a critical care unit with 24 bed at Northwick Park Hospital. The post holder will be working closely with the critical care pharmacy team at Northwick  Park Hospital. The patient group is diverse taking adult medical and surgical patients who require multi-organ support; often these patients are from specialties such as St Marks Hospital gastroenterology, intestinal failure, ENT, Vascular and Head & Neck departments. We pride ourselves on a multidisciplinary approach to individual patient care.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who has extensive clinical pharmacy experience and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be providing excellent pharmaceutical care to critically ill patients, and will need to have excellent clinical, communication and negotiation skills, as well as experience in providing training and education to a range of healthcare professionals and patients. Experience in managing individuals or team(s) is also an advantage.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge and practice of clinical pharmacy in the acute care setting
  • Experience of working within a range of clinical specialities
  • Minimum of four years post registration experience relevant to Hospital Pharmacy with assessed competencies or equivalent qualifications
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Contribution to data collection for clinical audit

Desirable

  • Ability to use research findings to develop clinical services /guidelines
  • Experience in providing a clinical pharmacy service to critically ill patients

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy (MPharm)
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
  • Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy

Desirable

  • MSc in a relevant subject
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Independent or supplementary Prescriber
