University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is looking for an experienced Physiotherapist to join the general rehabilitation unit therapy team at Mount Gould Hospital on a fixed-term 12-month contract. This post would suit Band 5’s looking to specialise or current Band 6’s who would like to broaden their experience.

The successful post holder will work alongside the existing team to operate in a general rehabilitation unit ward. In all these areas you will be supported by experienced clinicians who are specialists in their field.

The successful candidate will be joining a well- established team in delivering physiotherapy service to patients as part of the wider multidisciplinary unit. Applicants would need to have a broad range of experience, including post-graduate experience in the treatment of patients within the medical and surgical speciality.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to general inpatients on General Rehabilitation Unit at Mount Gould Hospital. This involves working across the trust in a range of settings.

To assist the Team Leaders in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to patients within the team, on a day-to-day basis.

To assess and treat own caseload of patients, who may have complex presentations, and maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner.

At times community / home visits may be required to be undertaken.

To deputise for the Team Leaders when necessary.

To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working autonomously. Senior support and supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from specialist physiotherapists is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree (BSc Hons Physiotherapy) or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Ability to maintain own development.

Desirable

  • MSc relevant to the area
  • Attendance of additional relevant professional courses.

Aptitude & Abilities

Essential

  • Demonstrates effective and adaptable communication skills including written and verbal

Desirable

  • Proven evidence of personal leadership.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Post graduate demonstrable experience in core rotations: Medical / Surgical / Neurology / Respiratory / Trauma and Orthopaedics / MSK
  • Demonstrable experience of teaching
  • Proven evidence of CPD
  • An awareness of current NHS and Health issues related to rehabilitation
  • Proven evidence of contribution to clinical education / supervision of less experienced staff, students or assistants

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of complex MDT working and discharge planning.
  • Clinical educator
  • Demonstrable experience within acute care setting
