Senior Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Prescribing Support Team B5

The role:

Join our specialist Prescribing Support Team and help shape how prescribing guidance, tools and improvement initiatives are developed and implemented within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in innovative prescribing workstreams, medicines governance and service improvement while maintaining clinical experience within general practice. You need to have a General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration in order to be considered for this post.

About the Team

We are a small, collaborative team delivering board-wide prescribing support. Our work focuses on developing guidance, tools and implementation plans that promote safe, consistent and cost-effective prescribing across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues across HSCPs and across sectors.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Clarkston Court
• 32.4 hours per week. Flexible working pattern available, including compressed hours over 4 days

Key responsibilities:

• The postholder will support a range of prescribing and medicines governance workstreams, including:
• Progressing cost-efficiency and prescribing improvement initiatives
• Developing and reviewing therapeutic switch guidance with MDT colleagues
• Maintaining prescribing tools such as eFormulary and prescribing synonyms
• Supporting communication and management of drug alerts, medicines shortages and specials/unlicensed medicine processes
• Contributing to structured, process-driven tasks that support safe and consistent prescribing practice
• Support horizon scanning activities to identify emerging prescribing trends and potential cost-efficiency opportunities aligned to organisational priorities
• This role offers variety, autonomy and the opportunity to influence prescribing practice at a board-wide level

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential Criteria

• Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
• Post-qualification experience within hospital, community or primary care pharmacy
• Demonstrated competence through professional portfolio and ongoing CPD
• Strong analytical, communication and IT skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Understanding of safe and effective use of medicines within primary or integrated care settings

Desirable Criteria

• Experience supporting prescribing tools (eFormulary, EMIS/Vision synonyms, ScriptSwitch or similar)
• Experience developing or implementing guidance, SOPs or improvement initiatives
• Experience working in primary care or GP practice settings
• Interest in prescribing efficiencies, governance or data-driven improvement work
