Job overview

The Senior Pharmacy Technician – Homecare and High-Cost Drugs works in a our friendly team of pharmacy staff to provide a safe, cost effective and efficient service for high-cost drugs and homecare provision.

The post holder works closely with the Lead Pharmacy Technician – High-Cost Drugs and Homecare and the Lead Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist to ensure that all pharmacy homecare and high-cost drugs processes at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn NHS Foundation Trust are in line with regional and national policy and guidelines.

You will work within the provision of Homecare Services, ensuring that national and local policies and processes are followed so that the homecare service provided to patients is safe, timely and cost-effective and complies with national legislation and the relevant professional standards.

Main duties of the job

  • Work towards national and regional/local policies and processes so that the homecare service provided to patients is safe, timely and cost-effective and complies with national legislation and the relevant professional standards.
  • Maintain a database for all patients receiving prescriptions via Homecare, to include all new patients, prescriptions, and treatment funding details
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records within the service
  • Complete the administrative tasks required for ordering, issuing of homecare medication to patients
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to maintain and improve the Homecare and High-Cost Drugs Service and implementing action plans to improve performance if KPIs are not met
  • Ascertain the funding status of any excluded from tariff drug prior to ordering and dispensing and refer any non-funded orders to the Lead Technician– High-Cost Drugs and Homecare and Lead Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist to advise.
  • Support the Lead Technician– High-Cost Drugs and Homecare in a provision of specialist advice to pharmacy staff and the wider MDT on the supply and prior approval of excluded from tariff drugs.
  • Support the Lead Technician– High-Cost Drugs and Homecare in reviewing and submitting Blueteq applications for approval of drugs excluded from tariff, including those for Covid-19 treatments.
