Job summary
We have an opportunity for a Senior Pharmacy Technician / Dispensary Managerto join our in-patient Pharmacy team. You will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but be able to work across all our in-patient dispensaries at Sunderland Royal and Sunderland Specialist Eye Hospital. If you are looking to gain experience as a senior technician manager and have the skills to manage a team of pharmacy dispensers, technicians and pharmacy assistants then this post could appeal to you. The Trust has invested in modern pharmaceutical facilities including full electronic prescribing with decision support, automated dispensaries and extensive 7-day clinical services to enhance the patients experience of care by improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of their medicines utilisation. This is an exciting time to join the team and shape the future dispensary services across South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a motivated individual who is team-orientated and shares our passion for improving patient care. You will need to be an experienced Pharmacy Technician working at Band 4 or above with a relevant pharmaceutical qualification and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). You will also need to be enthusiastic, self-motivated and well organised. As Senior Pharmacy Technician / Dispensary Manager you will manage a team of dispensers and work alongside our Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Dispensing Assistants to provide integrated pharmaceutical care for service users in the Trust, including service level agreement with our partner organisation Choice Ltd., to ensure safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medicines. As part of the Pharmacy team, you will be required to contribute to the 7-day rota which includes weekends and late night duty

Job responsibilities
- To lead and ensure the effective and efficient management and delivery of in-patient pharmacy dispensing services at STSFT
- To work with the Associate Chief Pharmacist for Operational services and assist with projects to improve efficiency and establish greater integration both within the department and the Trust to meet the changing needs of the organisation.
- To develop, implement and monitor standards for the service, including ensuring compliance with relevant medicines legislation.
- To implement and co-ordinate audit and research activities within the dispensary.
- To participate at managerial meetings as a Senior Technician Manager, providing support to both the operational and corporate delivery of services to meet the best interests of patients and service users.
- To work as part of team and when required, provide cross-cover to other operational Senior technicians.
- To work in partnership with Choice Ltd. Out-Patient services, ensuring staffing requirements as delivered as per contractual agreements.
- To ensure on-going management, training and development of staff within Dispensary services.
