Main duties of the job

As part of our team, you will be a friendly and hardworking individual ready to join our busy Homecare team as a Senior Pharmacy support worker within University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).

Homecare is a service that involves arranging medication and treatments to over 9640 patients in their home via 12 different Homecare providers. We are a small but expanding team of 13 staff consisting of 2 Pharmacy Technicians, 1 Senior Officer, 2 Advanced Senior Pharmacy Support Workers, 5 Senior Pharmacy Support Workers, and 3 Pharmacy Support Workers. The department operates Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 17:30.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In this role, your key responsibilities will include raising purchase orders against Homecare prescriptions, receipting goods onto our system & also processing invoices for payment through our CMM computer system. Other duties include looking after homecare provider statements & co-ordinating the daily emails & queries. You will also be responsible for supervising & organising the team of pharmacy support workers. This vacancy does not meet the Home Office threshold for sponsorship therefore we are unable to accept applications from candidates who do not have the right to work in the UK. The ideal candidate will have: - IT experience - suitable supervisory & organisational skills - show attention to details - excellent written and verbal communication - ability to prioritise workload - ability to work independently

Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

  • 2 GCSE’s or equivalent grades A* - C or 4-9 in English and Maths (If qualifications gained outside the UK evidence of equivalent standards must be demonstrated at interview)
  • NVQ 2 in Pharmacy or other Level 2 approved GPhC qualification for pharmacy support staff
  • Supervisory qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience of supervision
  • Previous pharmacy experience (hospital or community) or supervisory experience
  • Must be able to commit to completing ‘in-house’ training programme within 6 months of starting. Opportunities to progress are available but may require additional qualifications to meet eligibility criteria to undertake additional qualifications
  • Must be able to work late evenings, bank holidays and weekend working according to rota requirements
  • Health and physical abilities sufficient for the post (if necessary with reasonable adjustments with respect to the Equality Act/Disability Discrimination Act).
  • Required to lift and handle packages, weighing up to 15kg on a repetitive basis. (Reasonable adjustment may be made) Required to move pallets weighing between 500 and 600kg using an unpowered pallet truck daily (Receipts posts only)

  • GCSEs in science-based or other role specific relevant subjects
  • Previous experience in health or social care (if not pharmacy)
  • Experience in stock control i.e., receiving, maintaining and / or issuing stock
