The Royal London Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Senior Pharmacist to join an innovative specialist rotational programme within our clinical pharmacy team. Undertaking 9 – 12 month rotations across specialist rotations at the Royal London, part of Barts Health NHS Trust, you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimise medicines, improve patient flow and deliver safe, high-quality care.
This role offers an exceptional opportunity to build specialist expertise, lead quality improvement and service development projects, contribute to education and research, and develop the knowledge, leadership skills and professional credentials required for progression into highly specialist and advanced pharmacist roles.
Main duties of the job
The post is a structured rotational role, designed to provide experience across a variety of specialist practice areas within the Royal London Hospital. Through rotational placements, the post holder will develop advanced clinical knowledge, leadership skills and experience in service improvement, contributing to the delivery of high-quality pharmacy services across multiple specialist pathways.
The post holder will work on the wards and clinical areas and deliver quality care to patients through efficient medicines optimisation, medicines reconciliation, promoting cost effective prescribing, patient engagement and pathway development. This will include the assessment of patient’s own drugs, original pack dispensing at ward level, counseling patients about their medicines, supporting the medical/surgical team in evidence-based prescribing, supporting the nursing team in safe storage and administration of medicines and coordinating the supply of discharge medication. The post holder will work with their ward-based team to continually develop the service, while maintaining high standards and achieving best practice to meet the needs of patients and the Trust. The role will also involve dispensary-based responsibilities.

Experience

- Experience of working in a high acuity unit such as acute medical admissions, acute surgical admissions or another rotational role
- Proven experience of good performance in previous posts
- Previous evaluations or reviews of medicines
- Foundation knowledge in providing a hospital based pharmacy service to medical and surgical wards
- Some experience of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. pre-registration / foundation training pharmacists / nurses / junior doctors
- Experience in supervising and organising staff and work
Desirable
- Experience of working on a high dependency unit
- Successful experience of managing & leading projects
- Experience of delivering professional training and education

Qualifications
Essential
- MPharm or equivalent
- Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
- Minimum of a post graduate certificate in clinical pharmacy or a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
- Must have started working on the second stage of the diploma
- Independent prescribing qualification or willing to work towards
- RCPharm Advanced Framework Credentialed or will to work towards
Desirable
- GCP Trained in clinical trials
