Job overview

We are seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist with a passion for rehabilitation to help drive our intermediate care service and deliver a high standard of clinical interventions to patients within our intermediate care bed-based units across the Dudley Borough.

The post holder will be responsible for assessing, planning and delivering occupational therapy interventions for patients with a wide range of clinical needs and conditions, including orthopaedic, neurological, medical and surgical presentations, as well as frail older adults with complex co-morbidities. A key aspect of the role will involve supporting patients to maximise their independence, facilitating safe discharge planning, and working closely with patients, families and carers to achieve personalised rehabilitation goals.

The post holder will work as part of a large multidisciplinary team committed to delivering and continually improving high standards of therapy within Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the intermediate care pathway, providing effective and efficient physiotherapy to patients with a variety of physical conditions as part of an multi-disciplinary team. Duties will include, assessment, therapy (both group and/or individual as appropriate), developing tailored therapy programmes through to discharge, as well as appropriate delegation of work to assistants. Working autonomously across various ICT units, using evidence based/client centred principals to assess, plan, treat and evaluate interventions.

The post holder will be involved in service development, audit and development of junior staff.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with physically impaired patients
  • Completed rotations in core areas or equivalent rehabilitation experience across a wide variety of clinical settings
  • Experience of rehabilitation work within an acute/community rehabilitation setting
  • Relevant experience at post graduate level
  • Experience of working in a Multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Experience at band 6 level
  • Experience of community working

Physical Skills

Essential

  • Able to travel to meet the demands of the job – not all public transport will support all geographical locations
  • Able to perform therapeutic manual handling as required by the role

Knowledge and Training

Essential

  • Awareness of relevant national and local guidelines
  • Good knowledge of falls prevention and falls risk factors as per national guidelines
  • IT Training / knowledge

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • Diploma / degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of relevant post-graduate experience
