This is your opportunity to join us on our journey and become a part of our talented and passionate team. This is an exciting opportunity to be a Senior Maternity Support Worker (MSW) in Maternity services.

Within our services, we have opportunities to work in the Inpatient antenatal and postnatal ward, Central Delivery Suite, Antenatal Clinic (outpatient) Community and the Maternity Triage Unit. These roles will involve supporting the multidisciplinary team to care for women and birthing people as well as families and their newborn babies. Each area within Maternity has something different to offer for example, working on Central Delivery Suite, you will work closely with the theatre team to support elective and emergency procedures. Whereas in Antenatal Clinic or the Community, you may be running your own clinic.

We want all our Maternity Support Workers to become successful, competent and confident carers so we are committed to ensuring the ongoing education and development for individuals on a wide range of skills and knowledge with opportunities to develop.

Main duties of the job

A Senior Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is a core member of the team delivering direct care to patients and supporting registered practitioners to deliver high quality, compassionate health care to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan.

You will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare, or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner, in accordance with the Trust values.

There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills, specific to your needs. Training will be provided to ensure you have the required core skills and skills set specific to your area of work. You will also be supported to obtain your care certificate if you do not have this qualification.

Essential

  • Effective and appropriate communication skills both written and verbal
  • Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
  • Demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work, policies, and procedures
  • Committed to providing high quality patient care
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard Maternal Observations, Neonatal Observations, venepuncture, Neonatal blood via heel prick, ECG
  • IT skills, basic word, Email, keyboard skills
  • Ability and willingness to undertake appropriate training within given time frames
  • Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and moving across wards/unit dependant on clinical need
  • Able to demonstrate calm, caring patient manner / attitude
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to working within the healthcare setting
  • Able to meet the physical and developmental demands of the role

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of providing care in a healthcare or social setting
  • Be able to work as a member of a team
  • Experience of time management and prioritising work
  • Committed to a compassionate and caring approach to colleagues, patients & relatives
  • Able to adapt quickly to changing situations
  • Able to demonstrate an awareness of health care work, policies, and procedures
  • Work under the guidance for a lone worker in the community in line with local policy if applicable

  • Access to a car and holds a full Uk driving licence?

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Completion of Care Certificate
  • 5 GCSE’s or equivalent including English and Maths
  • Level 3 senior healthcare support worker apprenticeship with bridging programme which includes training packages with appropriate maternity focus or equivalent level 3 qualification or Recognition of prior experiential learning as per trust guidance
