As a subject matter expert in your sphere of expertise your main responsibility is to represent and ensure the safety and wellbeing of all staff, patients and visitors using the Trust premises with regards to the Decontamination Services mechanical and electrical environment.
Accountable for planned and reactive maintenance, testing and validation across CSSD/ and Pathology sterile-services decontamination plant and supporting critical utilities, ensuring safe, compliant operation, high uptime and audit-ready documentation in line with the HTM framework and infection-prevention standards, including all statutory and mandatory compliance requirements.
Main duties of the job
- To be the lead engineer for the respective discipline (Decontamination) providing advice to the Trust and department both strategically and operationally.
- Carry out detailed servicing on all equipment that aligns with the HTM specific to weekly, monthly, quarterly and Annual requirements
- To be the line manager for your respective subject matter team covering all aspects of individual and team management.
- To provide technical advice to the maintenance department staff and capital project team, or managers when required.
- To meet with contractors and other service providers to reach technical solutions referring to the Decontamination Lead FM if required.
- To ensure, by developing and undertaking audit, that safety programmes, safe systems of work, access control, permits to work and risk assessment are completed, issued or undertaken as appropriate. To instil in others the need to plan effectively and undertake appropriate risk assessment. To take control and issue management instructions (including the suspension of work) if any deficiencies in safety policies, procedures, assessments or work plans are discovered and such action is warranted.
- To ensure maintenance activity is managed to prevent, risk to the health, safety and wellbeing of persons directly involved or as a consequence of maintenance activity.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Educated to Masters equivalent level in building services/healthcare engineering/mechanical engineering or equivalent relevant experience
- Registered with the Engineering Council at Engineering Technician (EngTech) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
- Experience gained as a senior manager of a Decontamination service provider, either in a provider contract or inhouse provision.
- Completion of an accredited Health & Safety Risk Management training course (IOSH Managing Safety or similar) or associated Decontamination standards such as ISO13485 and ISO19001 quality management.
- Experience of creating, reviewing and developing risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and permit to work.
- Effective people management skills to lead, develop and motivate teams and individuals.
- To manage and support staff with sensitive and personal circumstances in a professional, fair and consistent manner and in line with Trust policy and procedures.
- Sound project management skills to plan and organise resource effectively, efficiently and economically including coordination of resource and availability of equipment and areas released for maintenance activity.

- Experience of computer based control, management and database systems associated with helpline (reactive maintenance) and planned programmes; Creation and manipulation using Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
