The Christie PET-CT Academy is seeking an experienced Senior Learning Designer to provide educational, technical and design leadership across our growing portfolio of online learning and professional development programmes. Working within the Christie Institute for Cancer Education, you will lead the development, implementation and quality assurance of high-quality digital learning resources that support healthcare professionals across the UK and internationally.    You will work closely with subject matter experts, stakeholders and partner organisations to transform specialist knowledge into engaging, evidence-based learning experiences. As a senior member of the team, you will oversee learning development projects, support and mentor learning designers, drive innovation in educational practice, and lead on the administration and development of the Academy’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).    This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and forward-thinking professional with expertise in learning design, educational technologies and online learning development, who is keen to influence the future of healthcare education within a nationally recognised Academy.

Main duties of the job

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES •    Lead and oversee online learning design and development projects from conception through to delivery.  •    Work collaboratively with subject matter experts, stakeholders and partners to create engaging, evidence-based learning experiences.  •    Drive and maintain quality standards across digital learning resources, assessments and educational activities.  •    Design inclusive, accessible and educationally sound learning materials and assessment activities.  •    Lead the development, maintenance and enhancement of the Academy’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).  •    Provide specialist technical expertise and support in relation to learning technologies and digital platforms.  •    Support evaluation, auditing and quality assurance processes, including learner analytics, KPI monitoring and reporting.  •    Mentor and support Learning Designers and colleagues across the Christie Institute for Cancer Education.  •    Ensure compliance with accessibility requirements, GDPR, intellectual property requirements and governance standards.  •    Stay abreast of developments in digital learning, educational research and emerging technologies, championing innovation and continuous improvement across the Academy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Online learning design, development and implementation

• Oversee learning development activities and projects from inception to production, supporting SMEs and the wider team with educational development and design. •    Drive quality standards, including ensuring that all learning resources/activities are educationally sound and underpinned by a strong evidence-base. •    Work closely with SMEs, partners, stakeholders and clients, to ensure that briefs, objectives and deadlines, including milestone deadlines are met. •    Ensure that learning activities and resources are inclusive, accessible and support equality and diversity. •    Engage in review sessions with SMEs to ensure that content satisfies and fulfils project aims and scope. •    Design a range of educationally sound assessment activities that allow learners to test their understanding of acquired knowledge and/or skills, and that provide appropriate and meaningful feedback. •    Lead on and/or support the development and implementation of robust internal evaluation, review and auditing processes, alongside senior colleagues and the wider team. •    Keep abreast of developments and research in digital learning development, design, and educational technologies, experimenting with innovative teaching, learning and assessment methods.

Virtual Learning Environment Administration

• Lead on the production and maintenance of documentation for processes and procedures in relation to the VLE, including user materials. •    Play a lead role in the technical support and maintenance for the Academy’s VLE, including development, enhancement, evaluation, user testing and configuration by being a source of specialist support and providing technical expertise to colleagues. •    In association with colleagues and the hosting organisation, ensure the effective maintenance of the VLE, including organising the installation of patches, updates, plugins and coordinating recovery systems in the event of data loss, whilst ensuring compliance with security and GDPR. •    Support colleagues in the effective use of a range of tools within the VLE which support learning. •    Ensure that first line technical support and maintenance for VLE is provided, including the provision of systems administration, support for enrolments, tracking and assessment and site/course configuration. •    Lead on the designing, editing and maintenance of the content on the VLE, ensuring that high standards are met and sustained at all times. •    Ensure that access rights to the VLE for all users are effectively managed, to ensure a high-quality experience and effective analytical reporting in relation to accessibility, assessment, and tracking.

Management and leadership

• Provide a source of support to members of the team and the wider CICE where appropriate. •    Support the Academy’s Programme Manager and other senior colleagues in securing and delivering a range of business opportunities. •    Co-lead on the management of a range of assets, including the Academy and, where relevant, wider CICE’s equipment and software.   Quality and Governance
• Maintain and audit compliance with data protection laws (e.g. GDPR and IPR). •    Manage all paper based and electronic records in respect of staff and learners, ensuring that GDPR is upheld at all times, both in terms of user data, and learning content. •    Manage the logistics/ processes and support reviews of content in conjunction with colleagues, stakeholders, partners, and SMEs, responding to any changes/updates in practice and guidance. •    Support data reporting processes and requirements, in line with GDPR. •    Support the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of quality assurance processes, including KPI monitoring and reporting. •    Ensure that end-user facing systems function correctly and follow accessibility and other guiding principles (GDPR etc.) •    Support the Programme Manager to manage risks, by reporting concerns in a timely manner and assisting the mitigation process.

Other

• Keep up to date with relevant professional and technical developments. •    Demonstrate the Christie Principles and Behaviours at all times, in line with the Trust Code of Conduct. •    Undertake other relevant duties as directed by the Academy Programme Manager. General •    Provide ad hoc support to other members of the team during periods of absence and periods of fluctuating activity. •    To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post. •    Maintain excellent contacts and relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. •    Work flexibly to support the development of activity within the PET-CT Academy. •    Ensure General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is adhered to through all activity.
