We are looking for a motivated Healthcare Assistant with a professional outlook to join our team in this satellite dialysis unit

The Renal Satellite Unit at Bexhill is situated 30 miles away from the main Renal Unit in Brighton. The unit is open Monday to Saturday 6.30am-6pm.

The unit is nurse led providing haemodialysis to a high standard, incorporating some of the latest technology for 58 patients within the local community.

We are looking for a Part time Band 3 Healthcare Assistant To work 33 hours per week They should have experience of working as a healthcare assistant in a health care setting and be looking to expand their knowledge and become part of a small, dedicated team. An interest in Renal Medicine would be an advantage.

The unit offers a good opportunity for a dynamic, hardworking, and enthusiastic individual to develop their skills within the area of renal care. Full training in this specialised field will be provided. An informal visit is strongly advised.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates as a member of the department team providing the highest standard of patient care.
  • Liaise effectively with all staff working within the department, based at renal satellite unit.
  • To actively work at all times within the Trust policies and procedures.
  • Act responsibly in emergency situations, in the absence of medical support.
  • Report any change in patient’s condition or any problems or hazards within the department to the nurse in charge.
  • Perform basic nursing care for the patient’s  assisting patients as necessary.
  • To prepare haemodialysis machines and equipment as necessary to undertake a safe and successful dialysis session.
  • To be actively involved in the assessment, planning, monitoring and evaluation of patient care prior to, during and post haemodialysis. Demonstrates and ability to trouble shoot haemodialysis problems and report accordingly. Performs and records accurate observations of BP and TPR and weight gains and report as necessary.
  • To actively participate in day to day upkeep of stock levels and cleanliness. Undertake housekeeping tasks such as cleaning chair, tables, equipment.
  • Clinical role to include: venepuncture, specifically cannulation of fistulae
  • To support registered staff in the nurse led satellite dialysis setting ensuring patients care and well-being is paramount

The post holder will work in a nurse led environment. To work as a member of the health care team providing direct care for patients requiring haemodialysis replacement therapy within the dialysis unit. Contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the unit. Provide direct care to patients showing an awareness of the unit philosophy and system of working. To ensure that all areas are clean and tidy and that stocks are adequately maintained.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NHS experience or NHS primary care experience is required or an internationally educated nurse/midwife/doctor who has worked in an acute hospital setting within recent years
  • Care Certificate from a Ofqual regulated awarding organisation. OR international qualification e.g overseas nursing degree
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills acquisition, working at a higher-level standard of care delivery, equivalent to vocational qualification level 3. This is evidenced via a portfolio of practice and/or a professional discussion

Desirable

  • Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support or Health and Social Care or relevant equivalent (or Level 2 or Level 3 apprenticeship standard in Clinical Healthcare Support, Health & Social Care or relevant equivalent qualification)
  • Maths GCSE (grade C or above or grade 4 to 9) or Maths Level 2 functional skills
  • English GCSE (grade C or above or grade 4 to 9) or English Level 2 Functional skills
