Job overview

We are looking for a dedicated, caring, and motivated Senior Health Care Support Worker to join us at Airedale Centre for Mental Health and Lynfield Mount Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting adults experiencing acute mental health needs, helping to create a safe, therapeutic, and recovery‑focused environment.

You will work under the guidance and supervision of registered healthcare professionals to deliver high‑quality, compassionate care to patients across our Airedale and Bradford services. You will support the clinical team in meeting individual care needs and contribute positively to the ward environment.

This post involves a 24‑hour service rota, including long days, nights, and weekends.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Health Care Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of safe, compassionate, and effective care for service users. Working under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting care delivery: Assist in the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of person-centred care for individuals experiencing mental illness, including those presenting with challenging behaviours.
  • Clinical support: Provide direct clinical care as delegated by registered staff, ensuring best practices are followed and care is delivered safely.
  • Patient safety and experience: Promote a safe, respectful, and dignified environment for all patients, families, and staff, in line with the Trust's values of We Care, We Listen, We Deliver.
  • Ward resources: Help maintain appropriate stock levels of clinical and non-clinical supplies on the ward.
  • Recovery-focused care: Support patients on their journey to recovery by encouraging independence, engagement, and empowerment.
  • Team support and development: Act as a positive role model for junior staff, providing guidance and supporting their development within the ward environment

Qualifications

Essential

  • QCF Level 2 Diploma in Care or equivalent.

Desirable

  • QCF Level 3 Diploma, Certificate or Award in Care or equivalent.

Attitude/Approach

Essential

  • Caring responsible approach towards mental illness, tolerant, reliable, enthusiastic and adaptable.
  • Able to work shift patterns over a 24hr period
  • Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and trustworthiness and remain calm in highly charged situations.

Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Experience of working with adults of working age with mental health needs or working with offenders / patients with challenging behaviour.
  • Effective patient care skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Caring responsible approach towards mental illness, tolerant, reliable, enthusiastic and adaptable.

Desirable

  • Experience of facilitating therapeutic activities with patients, either in groups or individually.
