Job summary
The postholder will join a friendly and supportive Financial Services team, working within the Trust's Cash Team to help maintain strong financial control across the organisation. You will be responsible for processing financial information in line with established procedures and providing reliable, professional accounting support to ensure the accuracy of the Trust's main exchequer accounts.
This role involves completing routine transactional tasks, supporting financial governance, and contributing to the smooth running of the Finance department. Key activities include conducting quarterly petty cash audits, preparing recharge journals, checking and coding invoices, verifying colleagues' journals, and carrying out general administrative duties to support the wider team.
Main duties of the job
Point of contact for petty cash and patient funds queries within the Trust
Training new cashiers on petty cash processes
Transferring patient funds if a site move has happened
Setting up new petty cash suppliers
Issue fuel charge cards and assisting with the internal statements process
Issuing corporate credit cards and managing availability to users
Manage processes relating to daily banking and cash collection receipting
Assisting with unreconciled bank items and dealing with transaction queries
Arranging bank transfers as required
Checking generic team emails and actioning items relating to any of the areas above
Assist with Roster system inputs for the whole of the finance team
Ensure Standing Financial Instructions and Financial Procedures are adhered to.
Assist in the process of audit and ensure compliance with audit recommendations.
Promote good practice in corporate governance.

Experience
Essential
- Confidence in information technology, particularly Microsoft Office, Excel
- Basic key board skills as the job requires prolonged use of computers/VDUs.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of the organisation.
- Clear and accurate written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and in an environment subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority, e.g. managing conflicting deadlines and unpredictable deadlines.
- Ability to concentrate for long periods of time
- Knowledge of computerised systems
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of accountancy procedures and principles
Desirable
- Involvement in finance training
- Valid driving licence
Qualifications
Essential
- A working knowledge of financial and non-financial computer systems (including Microsoft Word and Excel) to intermediate level
- Association of Accounting Technicians Level 3 qualification or above
Desirable
- Completed Association of Accounting Technicians Final Level, or progress towards a professional (CCAB) qualification
