Job overview

You are responsible for: Undertaking in a competent safe manner, a range of tasks to the required standards, frequencies and schedules & on a planned and ad hoc basis within the built environment. To pay due regard & observe all Health and Safety procedures including minimal handling regulations the appropriate use of PPE and equipment, COSHH Regulations, HTM’s. Maintain a clean safe & tidy working environment at all times. Ensuring the following services/duties are provided which will include but not be limited to: Environmental Services (Housekeeping Cleaning).

Main duties of the job

Provide the services described below to a high standard and to take pride in the quality of their work understanding that all staff within the organization have a role to enhance patient care

  • To develop and maintain good working relationships with service users, patients, visitors, staff and managers as well as external agencies providing services to the Trust.
  • Communicate and exemplar the Trust behaviour standards which promote the organization, maintain standards, being professional compassionate and caring at all times.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal dress/uniform, conduct in keeping with the nature of your duties, ensuring that the duties carried out will reflect to the credit of the department and Trust.
  • Attend statutory training, which will include but not be limited to Manual Handling, Infection Prevention Control, Fire and Health & Safety, Information Governance, Equality & Diversity and all other training that is required as part of your job role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To manage Housekeeping staff within the team, providing them with the information, direction, guidance and support necessary to enable them to undertake their responsibilities and duties
  • To work with other Housekeeping Team Leaders to ensure adequate staffing cover and the effective day-to-day operation and co-ordination of the Housekeeping service. To cover for other Housekeeping Team Leaders when required.
  • To plan rosters to ensure that daily staffing levels can meet predicted activity within the allocated budget
  • To develop and maintain effective methods of staff communication and involvement within the team in support of Housekeeping and Directorate objectives, using methods that reflect the needs and working patterns of staff
  • To recruit and select new Housekeeping staff to the team, following Trust policy and Trust and Directorate procedures. As requested, to support other Housekeeping Team Leaders in the recruitment and selection of their staff
  • To co-ordinate the induction of new Housekeeping staff joining the team, in accordance with Trust policy and Trust and Directorate procedures
  • To manage the performance and development of staff in the team, including undertaking the annual appraisal and development reviews of team members and ensuring that all team members have a current personal development plan
  • To ensure that all members of the team maintain a high standard of conduct and personal dress/uniform. To ensure that team members always act in a courteous, professional, compassionate and caring manner
  • To ensure that all team members are able to respond effectively to all medical and non-medical emergencies, in accordance with Directorate and Trust procedures, (including Major Incidents)
  • To contribute to the development of Housekeeping service training and development plans. As required, to assist the Housekeeping Manager and the Quality Manager with the planning, implementation and delivery of statutory, Directorate and Housekeeping service training
  • To ensure compliance within the team with existing Trust, Directorate and Housekeeping service policies, procedures and established safe working practices. To lead on the introduction of agreed new policies, procedures and working practices within the team
  • To manage the delegated pay budget and, as appropriate, non-pay budgets, for the team, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and effectively to meet agreed staffing and budgetary targets.
  • To support the development and maintenance of good working relationships with internal customers of the Housekeeping service, representing the department on working groups or at regular user meetings.
  • To work with internal customers to resolve any problems and complaints that may arise in relation to the Housekeeping service provided by the team
  • To contribute to the development of service improvement ideas and initiatives within the Housekeeping service by:
  • Helping to identify how the Housekeeping service can better meet the needs of the Trust, internal customers and patients
  • Contributing to the development, planning and introduction of service improvement ideas within the Housekeeping service and the Directorate
  • To maintain manual and electronic Housekeeping service records as required, including schedules of work, staff absence and leave, weekly and monthly timecards and time sheets
  • As required, to assist the Housekeeping Manager with the provision of data and other written information relating to the Housekeeping service. Maintain manual and electronic records for example weekly & monthly time sheets, overtime system and audits as required, involving team members to support accurate data management and development of team members.
  • As required, to prepare written proposals and make presentations to managers on Housekeeping and other related topics
  • To order, requisition and issue materials and equipment as required and in accordance with Housekeeping service and Trust procedures
  • As required and as appropriate, to cover for Housekeeping Team Leaders in their absence.
