Job overview
We are seeking a motivated and organised Senior Clinical Pharmacy Assistant to support the delivery of a safe, efficient and high-quality pharmacy service across wards and clinical areas. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the timely supply of medicines, maintaining accurate stock levels and supporting clinical teams to meet patients’ medication needs. You will work closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and procurement colleagues, contributing to patient safety, service efficiency and continuous improvement. The role requires excellent communication, attention to detail and the ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, to meet the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
You will support ward-based top-up services, monitor medicine stocks and expiry dates, maintain emergency drug supplies and ensure medicines are stored appropriately. You will assist with the supply, dispensing and transfer of medicines, assess patients’ own drugs in line with standard operating procedures, and escalate supply issues to the appropriate team. You will help ensure patients have access to relevant medication information, referring queries to clinical colleagues as needed. Additional responsibilities include supporting audits, collecting performance data, maintaining accurate records, training new staff within your scope of practice and following departmental procedures. You will also contribute to service meetings, provide cross-cover and participate in rota-based duties.
